Bravo Maria, Good riddance Ahnuld! Schwarzenegger, Shriver Separating After 25 Years
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=13567958
<snip>
The breakup comes about four months after Schwarzenegger ended a bumpy, two-term run as California governor, a job his wife never wanted him to pursue. Since then, Schwarzenegger, 63, has been fashioning a role as an international advocate for green energy, giving speeches and lining up work in Hollywood. Shriver, 55, has guested-edited an edition of Oprah Winfrey's magazine but also talked about the stress of changing roles after serving as California's first lady.

The joint statement, issued by a spokesman for Schwarzenegger, said the two were working on the future of their relationship while living apart and they would continue to parent their four children together.

"After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together," the statement said.

5. So back when he had a political career
Shriver "stood by her man" despite Gropingate. She could have left then, and perhaps have undone his governator phase. Nope, she deferred until it didn't matter.

6. Oh please! Divorce is their business alone
Jesus! Have you ever gone through one? Have your kids gone through one?

It's really none of anyone's business but their own. To make her out to be the conniving female is plain shitty.

9. Agreed.
Nobody knows what goes on inside a marriage except the two people involved, and it's pretty shitty to cast aspersions on anyone's decision to stay or go.

8. I hate to see anyone go through separation and divorce
I know it's sometimes necessary, but it's still sad, even when one of the parties is a Republican.

20. Divorce is very sad...
Regardless of the situation, and especially when children are involved, adult or minor children for that matter.

Always, without exception, a very sad thing.

Even if one party is escaping something evil in the other party and it's good riddance, it's still sad.

24. I think that is sad...
You married someone, then celebrated the parting... that is very sad.

I know people who were cheated on, ripped off, whatever... and their divorce was still sad. Some are even held emotionally hostage by the ghost of spouses past... even the cheaters... one in particular left his wife because she cheated, and 10 years later he still can't stop talking about her... even though he too "celebrates" the demise of the marriage.

25. The marriage was sad,
the divorce was liberation. Finding out that the person you thought you married doesn't exist and that you were just a cover for them is pretty damn sad. Having the courage to walk away wasn't sad at all.

19. Ahnuld and Maria, Al and Tipper...
In my mind these two couples deserve their privacy. Their situations are entirely different from the Edwards divorce. This was open to commentary because they both knowingly tried to defraud the voting public in a national election. And I speak as one who will forever admire Elizabeth Edwards otherwise.

I feel bad for both of them, really, and the kids. Divorce is devastating - emotionally, financially, physically. I hope they get through it with as much privacy as possible.

27. I despise the "rec" and "unrec" functions, so I won't employ them here, but ...
this could be one of the dumbest fucking posts I have ever had the misfortune to read here at DU. A couple has decided to split. They were married for 25 years, and obviously loved each other deeply at some point. Their kids are probably not celebrating. To inject politics into it is insensitive at best, although fucking moronic is probably a better description.
