What do you call all these sickening sappy Big Oil propaganda TV ads?
that are supposed to make you feel all warm and fuzzy about big oil corporations? They are taking over the corporate media TV. Whatever happened to just ads for gas? Are they supposed to make you want to buy oil stocks or are they just to bribe the corporate media from covering bad news. What action can be taken to stop these vile ads?

7. Right. There must be some
kind of term for these kind of ads that dont really sell anything to the TV viewers. Half of them just are about how great oil is. But obviously they have the power to pull them if the station does a negative story about oil or global warming.

4. Yeah they are getting really old.
MSNBC is running them a lot lately, ones asking talking about all the good oil companies do for our communities and I just think about all the good they did for the communities of the Gulf Coast. Fuck big oil, one second thought, to hell with any "big" industry. They all suck, even ones in industries that can't really harm anyone, go on ask me what I think of EA, I'll give you a hint: They suck, long live Nintendo. Yes, I realize the irony since Nintendo itself is a huge company, but they don't seem as terrible as some.

6. Investments in brainwashing the public.
Corporate media TV is 'taken over', has been, past tense. Ads for just gas don't do much, ROI, I'd imagine unless they push 'new' crap like detergent gasoline to 'clean' your engine failing that or high gas prices they can't push brand loyalty on consumers just looking for the lowest price, which has been for a long time now.

Taxing the oil companies more might be a start, to stopping them but short of some law about truth in advertising that isn't 'won' by tiny print for 1 nanosecond at the bottom of the screen, then nothing.

8. They are trying to sell the idea that Fracking is a good thing .
They are selling this horrible process that is poluting clean water sources as a safe way to provide clean burning gas as a safe way to provide energy to meet the demands of the USA for the next 100 years. So what if it makes the water used for all those states undrinkable. They are providing energy and the means for their profit for years to come. People do not really need clean drinkable water for themselves, their livestock or to grow crops to feed the world or even the USA....Food and water and clean air are so over rated, you know.

9. Dunno about TV...but I see their scummy hides smooching on
kids (feeding) in magazines and acting as if they give a rats ass about the planet. Really sick stuff...also saw GS doing it as well (picking a waitress actor and acting like they give a fuck). Fuckers know they are scum, just need to get the public behind them with bullshit PR.

13. Yes the Goldman Sachs one was revolting.
Has a 'clean waitress/model' (of course they don't show her actually busting her hump on tables) standing outside of a 'business' explaining how GS will invest her money wisely blah blah...another one is an Exxon CEO kissing SOME child (I assume it is his grandchild) and explaining how much he loves Jesus and bunnies. The frequency of the adds has picked up a lot in the past 6 months.

At this point in time I think it jades people more then it brainwashes people.

12. they are appealing to those who dont want to know how we are being truly
fucked by them and their irresponsible actions. every single dirty industry, greedy financial company and dangerous pesticide producer or drug maker is out in force these days with the thinly veiled PR campaigns to make them look like caring, sympathetic and ethical people trying to make a better world. its horseshit. follow the money....then you find out what they really care about.

they want their money and they want it now. cant be bothered with finding safe clean ways to do things. what if they dont make huge profits right away? a tragedy of epic proportions would occur if they had to create long term solutions to the problems caused by the way they are currently fucking things up. they wont get their obscene bonuses this year. they might have to make it on last years obscene bonus. horrors.

Edited on Mon May-09-11 12:03 PM by Urban Prairie
polluting the planet while bending us over the proverbial oil bbl. Pretty damned shortsighted of this nation to put all of its transportation eggs into one combustion-engine dependent interstate/intrastate highways/roadways basket, and permitted cross-country passenger rail transportation to mostly wither and die. Now most of our towns, cities, suburbs, exurbs, villages and rural areas have been developed and designed around primarily trucking in/out products, and as a result are also inexorably tied to personal transportation or at best the Greyhound bus.

They think they can fool enough people to feel good about getting screwed by the oil companies. "Yeah, we're screwing you but it's for your own good."

19. Influence on potential jurors
Koch industries did this in 1999 in Tulsa. One brother was suing the other for defrauding shareholders.
There were so many ads with beautiful green pastures, clear lakes etc. It was nauseating.

20. crap.
the "regular people" on those commercials always sound more stupid than the "industry people." All involved make me switch the channel to the shopping network or some fundy station. I often wonder who these oil companies thing they're fooling. I take special pleasure with the commercials our local PBS stations run before the news hour. reminders of where their "new" bias lies.
