It is self-evident the vast majority of politicians are representatives of corporate interests, not our interests. That goes without saying. It should equally be self-evident nobody is going to change things or at the very least we cannot rely upon anyone but ourselves to changes things. We have to accept this fact no less than an alcoholic has to accept they're an alcoholic before they can fix their alcohol problem.
We the working class and poor class have a political problem. We have no representation. Therefore it is my humble opinion that it is incumbent upon us to explore alternatives. To continue to hope for change within a group of people who have repeatedly let us down or even betrayed us is by definition delusional. So what alternatives are available to us? Well, in my opinion we need to explore how we can elect us from right here on this blog and other liberal/progressive blogs instead of being deluded into continually electing them the corporate sponsored.
Look, I am a union labor worker and always have been. As such I have been in several labor disputes in my lifetime and witnessed what works and what doesn't. The key to any victory of course, hands down, is Solidarity. Now how do we employ this?
First we elect a DU political action committee to represent DU to other liberal/progressive blogs. The internet is a powerful tool and we can and should use it to our maximum advantage. Nothing illegal of course. Just what its best suited for, connecting people.
Following in the idea of the AFL-CIO we (all liberal/progressive blogs) should create a central site, a federation of liberal/progressive blogs website for coordination among ourselves. Such as holding our own elections as to who best should we choose (from among us) to run for each office in congress and the white house for example. Also to coordinate fund raising for the purpose of buying advertisement on billboards and newspapers advertising who we are, what we're about and the address of our websites.
In my life time of labor union experience, having a central site such as the AFL-CIO in no way diminished any of the unions I've been in. I believe the same would be true with DU with what I'm describing. In fact this sort of collectivism has always proven to be strengthening, not weakening.
I believe a liberal/progressive grassroots movement such as this utilizing the networking ability of the internet and buying very inexpensive advertising, and, making up our own flyers, passing them out to our fellow classmates if you're in collage, or to our family, friends and co-workers can provide all the support we need to win elections. I believe there's enough discontent among the public to welcome a change such as this. Especially if people just remember the key word - SOLIDARITY! We don't need the media because WE own the vast majority of the votes. All we need to do is network with each other and run our own candidates who we already know because we read their posts everyday. There's a lot of very bright people on DU who I would have no problem voting for.
Well, its an idea I thought to run pass you all and thought we could call ourselves something like the Democratic Blog Party or something.
Peace, Xicano
