UFO discussion

I wish there could be a separate forum on DU for discussing UFO (also called UAP: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, but here I'll just call them UFO). Most threads about UFO are either posted in the September 11 forum, or are sent there by the moderators after originally having been posted in GD. Some 9-11 theorists don’t seem to like having UFO threads pop up in the September 11 forum. Maybe they consider such threads alien invaders.

I’m a skeptic who believes that most reports of UFO sightings that aren’t obvious hoaxes or cases of people mistaking planets, balloons, flocks of birds and other commonplace things for UFO, can be attributed to plasma effects, such as those that produce aurora borealis and aurora australis. But along with a growing number of reputable physicists and other scientists, I believe that UFO research should be taken seriously, and that unexplained UFO sightings, especially those occurring in atmospheric conditions not conducive to producing plasma effects, and UFO reports made by experienced airplane pilots and supported by ground radar detection, warrant investigation.

Not everyone interested in UFO believes in the Roswell lore or claims of alien abductions, or that ETs are responsible for cattle mutilations and crop circles. I don’t. However, I don’t dismiss the possibility, however slight, that ETs are visiting Earth. There may be other DUers, who, like me, would like to discuss the UFO phenomenon without being ridiculed by the true believers who claim to know they’re not, and then whisked off to September 11 to sink like a rock, without anyone having had a chance for real discussion on the topic – discussion that might prove to be enlightening for one “side” or the other, or both.

There are several DU groups, plus a forum, pertaining to religion, but the concept of UFOs is too farfetched to have its own little niche? If you’d prefer not to have a separate UFO forum on DU, would you consider officially combining a UFO forum with the September 11 forum so that the 9/11ers wouldn’t consider UFOers intruders on their turf?
