President's statement on death of Anwar Awlaki
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/theoval/post/2011/09/obama-terrorists-will-find-no-safe-haven-anywhere/1

I want to say a few words about some important news. Earlier this morning, Anwar Awlaki, a leader of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, was killed in Yemen. The death...

(APPLAUSE)

The death of Awlaki is a major blow to Al Qaeda's most active operational affiliate. Awlaki was the leader of external operations for Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. In that role, he took the lead in planning and directing efforts to murder innocent Americans. He directed the failed attempt to blow up an airplane on Christmas Day in 2009. He directed the failed attempt to blow up U.S. cargo planes in 2010. And he repeatedly called on individuals in the United States and around the globe to kill innocent men, women and children to advance a murderous agenda.

The death of Awlaki marks another significant milestone in the broader effort to defeat Al Qaeda and its affiliates. Furthermore, the success is a tribute to our intelligence community and to the efforts of Yemen and its security forces, who have worked closely with the United States over the course of several years.

Awlaki and his organization have been directly responsible for the deaths of many Yemeni citizens. His hateful ideology and targeting of innocent civilians has been rejected by the vast majority of Muslims and people of all faiths, and he has met his demise because the government and the people of Yemen have joined the international community in a common effort against Al Qaeda.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula remains a dangerous, but weakened terrorist organization. And going forward, we will remain vigilant against any threats to the United States or our allies and partners.

But make no mistake: This is further proof that Al Qaeda and its affiliates will find no safe haven anywhere in the world. Working with Yemen and our other allies and partners, we will be determined, we will be deliberate, we will be relentless, we will be resolute in our commitment to destroy terrorist networks that aim to kill Americans, and to build a world in which people everywhere can live in greater peace, prosperity and security.

1. You forgot to put Bush after President in your title.
Because no Democrat I know would talk like this; especially since he ordered the killing of this US citizen without due process.

2. He got due process, and failed to show up for it. Mr. Al-walaki was a convict who
was a fugitive.

6. Indicted, tried and convicted by Yemen for inciting murder.
And we apparently had enough evidence to place him on a very select list.

I only wish Bush had done this to Bin Laden rather than gone to war in Iraq.

10. Go and light a candle for him
He has long been pleading guilty. He was at war with the United States and as a result his killing wouldn't be at odds with the Geneva Convention.

9. And the USA continues to bring death and terror to the world daily.
killing innocents and breeding terrorists.

There are many better solutions for saving or improving the lives of Americans or those of other nations than war and drones.

13. "to the world"? Funny, it doesn't seem like "the world" agrees with your bizarre perspective.

President Obama has been the world's most popular leader since he was elected:

15. Popularity contest?
What Nation is the most militaristic and global and violent on the Earth?

The USA.

You have no idea how much I support or supported POTUS Obama.

I put more effort, time, $, and credibility on the line since McCarthy in 1968 to elect POTUS Obama.

I cried when POTUS Obama was elected.

But POTUS Obama turned out to be neoliberal, more hawk, and less for the lower 98% than one could have gleaned readily from campaign rhetoric.

I expect to vote for POTUS Obama in 2012 unless he decides to dropout and the Democratic Party is revitalized by a real primary.
