Mitch Daniels - a seemingly calmer, smarter, not bat-shit crazy Rick Perry?

I listened to him a few minutes on Dianne Rehm and was getting worried - until he explained that Social Security is a ponzi scheme that keeps better off Americans from stepping into take care of the neighbors the way they want to.

He's dangerous when he first starts talking, but then as he keeps speaking, the crazy comes through.




Pre-emptive apology: I am a depressive, so technically I am crazy, but there really is something wrong with people who have created their own fantasy world and think it's real!

1. Nothing is stopping better off Americans from helping the poor

For instance, being willing to pay more in taxes (or give up some exemptions) to fund domestic social programs, maybe? Not demanding that we cut social programs and entitlement programs? Private charity is also nice but wealthy individuals and/or charitable organizations still can't distribute money and/or services as efficiently and/or effectively as government can. Also, as Michael Moore has pointed in several of his books, supporting progressive initiatives would actually benefit the wealthy in ways that they can't seem to recognize on their own. :shrug:

3. If people had been so good at stepping up and taking care

of their neighbors, FDR would never have been successful.

How can people who believe Selfishness is a virtue
ever be expected to step up and help their neighbor.

When one party is taught that People are in poverty
by their own choices, lazy, druggie, alcoholics by
their own choices. This cools anyone's conscience
to believe they have an obligation to others.

The NEW Republican Party does not believe in any
form of government help. Not even unemployment
insurance. God forbid any form of welfare or public
assistance, and health care is anathema.

So no matter how logical and reasonable a candidate
may be, just understand their goal is to get rid
of these programs. The choice could not be clearer.
but own party does not have the gumption to stand
up and make the case.

4. It goes beyond cooling people's consciences; if you believe that people

are in poverty as a result of their own bad choices, then if you help them, you become an enabler. Therefore, you should use "tough love" and let them hit bottom and decide to raise themselves out of poverty by their own bootstraps. Unless of course, the "mistakes" are made by rich people, in which case we have to help them. Thus, we bail out banks but people who are now underwater with their mortgages can't be helped because they need to learn from their mistakes.

9. These people seem to not realize that in a city

(especially in large ones)one person could have 100's of immediate neighbors. How does one person take care of 100's of neighbors? I'd think putting money in a centralized fund that everyone contributes to would work. I wonder if there is something like that? :shrug:
