Perry: Cut aide to Palestinians over U.N. vote

A vote for Palestinian statehood at the U.N. is largely a symbolic move. Advocates hope it will spur international pressure, and a nonviolent Palestinian movement, to make it real.

Critics fear chaos on the ground and Israel retaliation that could set back progress toward autonomy on the ground; and one piece of that are the threats from the House that the U.S. could cut aide to the Palestinians.

Rick Perry seems -- a bit vaguely -- to back that line in a Wall Street Journal (sub. req.) op-ed today:

Our aid is, and must remain, predicated on the commitment of the Palestinian leadership to engage honestly and directly with the Israelis in negotiating a peace settlement. Their threatened unilateral action in the U.N. signals a failure to abide by this commitment.
