TPM: White House Statement On Earthquake

4. I'm on the East Coast, NYC to be exact. It was felt here--but I slept through it.
It's not a big deal. There was only one building evacuated downtown---my sister who works downtown doesn't even know---since she didn't call the house. She would call us if she new about the Earthquake.

2. What do you know...a fast, reasonable assessment and response.
Why do people WANT such theatrics and drama?

5. Helps with the hate I guess. Shit--My mother turned the channel. She's like we're alive, moving on
every station on basic television is talking about this shit and interrupted my mum's soap opera. Keep in mind we apparently felt the quake (I slept through it--again---this is like the 6th quake I've slept through in NYC in my lifetime living here).

6. People are really dumbing down...
I read an obituary yesterday that read like an Academy Awards acceptance speech! I effing kid you NOT! There was very little about the poor kid who died tragically in a kayaking accident, but paragraphs wherein the mother (of all effing people to short the kid on his last press release) thanks everyone from the guy she sat next to on the plane, some cousins who were gracious enough to help her with lodging, etc., and a laundry list of other people she thanked. It was all about her, her, her, and very little about her poor dead son. I nearly puked... I feel the bile rising even now.

Pathetic.

Yes, people want drama... apparently at ANY cost.

Sick.

7. When Bush or Reagan went on vacation...
There were "do not disturb" orders... sickening.

With Obama, we hear from GOTPers that he should just sit down and shut up so as not to do "further damage"... yeah, that flies until he takes vacation, then they want his skinny ass out there sweating! Idiots.

8. Here in D.C., and it's an absolutely GORGEOUS day!!
I was at work when this happened. All workers were safely evacuated, and even the METRO is almost back to normal. There was little or no damage caused from the earthquake. Some broken glass in the Smithsonian; damage to the Cathedral that will be repaired. Other than that, absolutely nothing! It is a gorgeous day! People are out on the Mall, running and walking and enjoying Happy Hour. Even the Nationals will carry on tonight and play baseball.

9. Hurricane Irene: National Resources in Case of Emergency (WH)
Hurricane Irene: National Resources in Case of Emergency

As Hurricane Irene makes its way through the Caribbean, current forecasts from the National Hurricane Center project that the storm may continue to strengthen and could make landfall anywhere along the East Coast. Yesterday, President Obama signed an emergency declaration for Puerto Rico and ordered federal aid to supplement commonwealth and local response efforts in the area.

While the future path of Irene is uncertain, it??s important that those along the East Coast take steps to get prepared and stay informed. Ready.gov/hurricanes offers complete advice on how to prepare for severe storms, and hurricanes.gov always has the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center.

Here are some other web resources that will be useful if you or people you know are impacted by this storm.
