All because of a racist, regional party.

The Tea Party, the debt ceiling, and white Southern extremism

I will criticize. Racism is a rampant undercurrent here. Left the south to get away from it even though I am white. I hated the vibe. I know many who are republicans just because they cannot stand the thought of black people getting a free ride (Welfare queen mime). And I heard the "n" word so many times at family gatherings that I quit going.

Or the Auto bail out,
or the Stimulus?

Please get back to me with some figures,
Since I learned nothing about facts from your post.....
other than everything that has ever happened is this president's fault.

10. You realize that "it is not helping now" doesn't jive with your statement
that he should have been doing Jobs back then instead of health care reform, right?
But if you simply wanted to get in line with a snarky one liner without substantiation,
you have succeeded! Note: The GOP says that Obamacare is a Job Killer. Guess you agree
with them, right?

14. nope, not at all. just saying that if president obama had put jobs
first while dems had the majority in both houses, he could have put the whole country back to work.

but I think he was thinking that having those super majorities was a once in a life time deal so he went for healthcare. which is probably, maybe, the correct choice cause there is no way in hell that any type of healthcare program is going to pass now. but if he had focused on jobs he would have had a stronger economy at his back going into the 2010 elections and maybe the losses would not have been so bad and it would probably have made his re-election a 90% reality.

thats all I'm saying.

45. from the auto bailout alone, 1 million+ jobs were saved....
GM IPO: Auto Bailout Saved More Than 1 Million Jobs, Study Says

The Center for Automotive Research said today the government’s bailouts of the U.S. auto industry spared more than 1.14 million jobs last year alone, and prevented “additional personal income losses” of nearly $97 billion combined for this year and last.

Another 314,400 jobs were saved this year thanks to the $80 billion in taxpayer lifelines extended to GM, Chrysler, and the GMAC and Chrysler Financial financing businesses, CAR said. The research organization based its conclusions on the potential impact of auto-industry collapse for jobs at U.S. auto makers and suppliers, and cascading effects on the economy at large.

White House Says Stimulus Saved As Many As 3.6 Million Jobs

With nearly all of its $787 billion spent, and unemployment still hovering above 9 percent, the report also says the stimulus act is responsible for a 2.3 to 3.2 percent jump in GDP through the first quarter of 2011.

Health care jobs a growing sector locally

Local experts said there is a wealth of job opportunities in the region, from family physicians to certified nursing assistants. About 14 percent of the local labor force is employed in the health care sector, according to Austin Burke, president of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce.

"Health care is a major part of our economy," Mr. Burke said. "They are high-paying jobs ... and they are anchor institutions" for the community.

The demand for medical workers locally often outpaces the supply, and many local experts said the area's need will only grow as health care reform legislation is rolled out and Northeast Pennsylvania's population continues to age.

Across the region, hospital officials said they are always advertising for nurses and medical technicians, partly because those jobs make up a big portion of the total medical work force. And the more specialized the job, the harder it is to find employees.

Emergency room and intensive-care nurses and most medical technicians "require specialized training, so it's always hard to fill those openings," said Gretchen Ann Eagen, recruitment and retention specialist at Mercy Health Partners.

There is also a growing need for physical, occupational and speech therapists in the region, mainly because of the region's aging population.

47. Good, sourced answer. Thanks.
I think it's unfortunate that the current administration hasn't done a better job of connecting the dots in the public discourse between the stimulus--flawed in scope and focus though some of us might think it was--and the jobs that were saved by it.

Of course, that involves trying to make a complex argument involving predictive analysis in the MSM, so it's an uphill battle.

48. Perhaps if the professional Left actually did some of that
like the Professional right does, we'd be a bit ahead of the game.

Instead, the PL chooses to wipe their asses on Pres. Obama instead....
cause he's daddy, and he's got to be perfect, and do all of the heavy lifting
all by himself, while we throw rocks and boo him.

We may just lose in 2012, but it won't be cause of Barack Obama...
it will be because our side was so busy assisting the other side,
it forgot that their own words (non stop since inauguration) have consequences,
to the causes that are "supposed" to mean so much to them.

Just read this as posted at RedStates, a RW Site....
think we need to stop focusing so much on internal fights and start focusing on defeating our political opponents. We can primary our own ’til the day is done, but that might just give us a few more Angle’s, and lose us the Senate and presidency. It is time we realize that it is a good thing the Kos Kidz are angry and we should do our utmost to not resemble them in any way. Don’t tell the left they are wrong to be angry at The One, encourage their anger, encourage their divisiveness. When your have broken through your enemies lines, you are supposed to TURN THE GUNS ON THEM, not fire the guns pointed at your own men!

56. You're oversimplifying, and absolving the WH of any responsibility.
If the "professional left" :eyes: is indeed as powerful as you say, why has the WH gone to such lengths to antagonize them, rather than bring them into the fold and making them at least feel that their concerns are being addressed?

Again, I think it's ridiculously simplistic to say that losing the Presidency in 2012 wouldn't "be cause of Barack Obama." Do you really consider him to be that powerless?

59. Barack Obama is only powerful if the American people stand with him,
instead of climbing on top of him.

John Kerry was a much better person for the office of President than George Bush ever was....
and yet, George Bush served two terms. Why do you think that is? You think John Kerry was
"responsible" for his loss, or do you think that the media machine manipulated things just so
John Kerry would end up the loser?

I think that there are much greater powers at play than you and me, and so for us to work
WITH those powers (even indirectly by providing them with the advantage) is undeniably stupid
Talk about acting against your own best interest!

In 2012, whatever happens, Barack Obama will go on with his life, but where will those who "claim" to be soooo passionate till they have been dogging out this President without rest be, once he is gone? Do you even care?

I see this whole thing to be about much more than Pres. Obama, or teaching him a lesson, or/and believing him not to have acted out in the best interest of the people. I see this as the quest of survival for millions, period....cause at the end of the day, it ain't a game, it ain't about someone's hurt feelings, and it isn't even about how progressive can we get our Democratic President to be. So to join the other side at burying him, is an act of grand idiocy. IMO.

11. Is it Obama's fault that the DOW has jumped from ~7500 on the day
he was inaugurated, to about 11,800 now?

Is it his fault that we went from losing about 600,000 jobs a months, to gaining jobs?

Did you know that in the month the stimulus passes, unemployment was already 8.4% (Feb 2009), reaching 8.7% in March of 2009)?

It then increased to 10.2% by October 2009 ... and then started to fall, and by Mar 2011, it was 8.8% or 8.9%.

WOW ... Obama stopped the collapse, and started to change the direction of the unemployment rate in 2 years, such that in March of 2011, it was within .2% of where it was during the worst part of the Bush / GOP Recession.

And then what happened, in January ... a Tea party controlled house dropped all legislation about jobs and the ecomony, and started to attack planned parenthood and abortion ... and similar nonsense.

Wake UP ... the goal of the GOP is to be a drag on the economy. The GOP house has no jobs plans, none.

Unless "close down the government" is a jobs plan.

13. Oh so the economy is not your point????
So you need to switch topics???

The OP claimed the DOW was tanking ... it closed UP today.

But why spoil a good economic rant ...

YOu seem to be engaged in the cult of personality far more than I ... you actually thought Obama was the Messaih, the one the GOP ridiculed the left about.

I saw him as a man, a Democratic President up against the most insane GOP in 50 years.

You see him as a President who should be able to use his staff to turn the rivers red.

Ignore the facts ... hate Obama ... it seems to work for you. On a personality level I mean.

16. Easily refuted.
"Did you know that he was only in favor of a public option when he thought it couldn't pass?"
He supported the PO publicly right up to the point that the entire bill was stalled because Lieberman said he wouldn't vote for a PO. No one can read his mind, so it's ridiculous to say that he "secretly wanted" something other than he claimed.

"Did you know he was against extending the Bush tax cuts until he shamelessly filp-flopped and gave the GOP everything they wanted?"
He was against extending the Bush tax cuts ONLY for those making over $250k annually. Yrs, he negotiated that away, but by doing so he was able to extend unemployment and maintain the rest of the tax cuts in a recession.

"Did you know that Obama put S.S. and medicare cuts on the table in the latest ginned up crises, not the Republicans?"
SS is protected from the trigger, and any cuts to Medicare as part of the trigger are required to be on the provider end, only. Yes, the committee can consider "cuts" to these programs, but they still must pass a vote in both Houses.

"Did you know that gitmo is still open for business?"
Obama issued an XO to close it. The only reason it's still open is because Congress blocked the transfer of detainees.

"Did you know that American families are still losing mothers and fathers to two corporate sponsored wars in the middle east? (tell kids who lost a parent in a pointless war to stop asking for there pony)"
We are pulling troops out of both.

"Did you know that a democrat who spends all his or her time talking about deficit reduction, instead of job creation, in the middle of the worst economy since the great depression when poverty is SOARING OUT OF CONTROL isn't really a democrat?"
What is the first thing Obama talked about after the debt crisis was over? Jobs.

Down over 10% in a little over a week.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled delusions.

54. Yep. And we got ridiculed yesterday because it closed at +29...
Now crashing down -344 because... overseas sales (on credit cards) can only last for a limited time period.

My goodness, what will it take? THE PROBLEM IS there is NOT sufficient EFFING DEMAND BECAUSE consumers DON'T HAVE ENOUGH effing CASH TO SPEND (the 1% plutocrats GRAB it all and STASH it in their DORMANT BANK ACCOUNTS).

60. We are squarely in a fourth turning. This is a crisis. Only regulation, tax hikes and Glass-Stegall
can save the system from itself. We need to get rid of the republicans and corporate democrats so we can fix things.

They're going to eliminate your job ASAP anyway. Some of the worst offenders for shipping jobs over seas and laying people off here do so all the while dodging taxes and while making record profits. Their behavior isn't going to change. They're going to fuck you hard and often as possible.

62. Go back into recession?
You mean it ended at some point? Cause I missed that.

A family member that worked at one of the big 3 auto makers for 30 years got thrown out of work over 2 years ago and still hasn't got a job.

Hes got a masters, worked all his life, started on the line and worked his way up.

He and his wife had to declare bankruptcy. They lost their house and drive old junkers now. She works at a big box store for minimum wages and he does odd jobs where he can find them. I'm sure his unemployment is over by now. They lost everything. Same story for other family members. Oh and these people are in their 50's. Great way to end up eh? After working hard all your life to end up penniless and desperate as hell. I'm sure rush and the tea party are laughing their asses off about people like this all the way to the bank!

We are finished. Global so-called free markets will destroy not only America but all of Europe and Japan. Eventually the whole world.

We will all get to experience the joys and fruits of unrestricted capitalism wiping out whole countries, one after another.

I'll save a spot for ya in the nearest tea party tent city...

66. It is NOT as bad as it was under Bush, and it will NOT get that bad

And the stock market is still much better than it was last year when it was way under 10,000.

THE SKY IS NOT FALLING :)
