15. "we need to make some modest adjustments to programs like Medicare"
"That’s why the second part of this agreement is so important. It establishes a bipartisan committee of Congress to report back by November with a proposal to further reduce the deficit, which will then be put before the entire Congress for an up or down vote. In this stage, everything will be on the table. To hold us all accountable for making these reforms, tough cuts that both parties would find objectionable would automatically go into effect if we don’t act."

I have a modest suggestion for you.

25. He's talked about those adjustments since the 2011 SOTU.
And I have no problem with him putting the onus on Congress if cuts DO take place. Maybe the dumbasses will actually listen to the constituents who are now sitting a little more at attention after all this bullshit.

32. I don't care if if he was talking about it since 1961.
I don't care if his first words were "Cut Social Security - potty now."

He's wrong. He owns it. The onus is on Congress since he handed it over. There is no "if".

Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 09:24 PM by AmBlue
Even the majority of Rs want to see the wealthy and big corps paying their fair share, and whether they recognize it or not they depend on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid like the rest of us. It's a betrayal of trust and utterly contrary to Obama's campaign message. He sold himself as a progressive, but he's nowhere near.

I'm with the OP.... VERY disappointed in the lack of spine and broken promises from our President.

That is just funny. Read it a second time if you can not grasp it. JD, the day in which content free snark got any traction at all is done and buried at midnight last night. These content free waste of space attempts at sarcasm are not suited to the grave importance of the matters at hand. The name calling and the poor attempts at insult humor, from this day forward, will fail to function as they did before. One word, absurd posts. K&R, nt. 27. If "it" means the excitement people had in the beginning, then I agree.
His approach toward some of the major issues has been too passive. One of the pillars of politics is debate, and debate is not about peacemaking, it's about the truth.

Another pillar of politics is marketing; in marketing, you want to sell your brand, not "both" brands.

76. And that, right there, is the reason so many here are disappointed in Mr. Obama.
They voted for who they THOUGHT he was, not paying one bit of attention to who the man himself SAID he was.

They saw "Black Man" and projected "Angry Revolutionary" onto a person that isn't, nor had ever been.

There is more than a slight tinge of racism in that projection.

Not calling you a racist, mind you, but there was that incorrect perception of who Mr. Obama was as a politician, and people are angry at a man who isn't the person they wrongly thought him to be.

Mr. Obama is not Eldridge Cleaver, Malcolm X, or even Dr. King.

That's all that matters.

Even if he's been owned.

p.s. While no one was paying attention, Obama got just about all the cuts he said he wanted back in April!!!

90. For a man who is constantly under attack from all sides,
he is quite capable of getting something constructive done. I presume 12-dimensional chess really is hard to detect from a never satisfied progressive point of view. If you get out and put in more dems in the house and even senate and give Obama 4 more, you all might just get some of what you want!!

We did not support him enough. If we had worked harder for him, he wouldn't have treated us like crap for the last 2.5 years.

No thanks. Just "Unsubscribed" from Obama related e-mail alerts. I've heard all I need to.

110. Ah, you summed up the last 17 months inside
One headline.

And there was also "Yes, We Can but only after We Get a Second Term," and

"You are being all sore and pathetic cuz you didn't get your pony."

And then of course, from Rahm's lips, "Retards!"

108. So sad
So very, very sad.

He could have been FDR2.

He could have saved this generation.

He could have led America back to greatness once again.

Now he leads us into banana republic status instead.

The US is finished as a great country. We will slowly sink into a third world hellhole with the tea party fascists leading the way along with the help of the President and the fucking DLC.

Good night USA. The long journey into night started by raygun and Bush will continue under Obama, the brownshirt tea baggers and.....

I'm to old for this sad, sad shit.

And we will have to pledge to each other to further the cause.

The cause of the progressives. The progressives that ended Child Labor, that saw to it that Americans had good jobs, with wages that allowed for a single working adult to make enough to support the family. That offered people a safety net.

That progressivism was followed for a brief while by Democrats and Republicans alike. It helped the nation have a fabulous infrastructure - a vast system of highways, community colleges for little payment from the community's students, community hospitals and clinics, and
in order to foot the bill, we had people in the White House and in Congress that did not coddle the rich.

Return the nation to the tax rates that allowed for Eisenhower to put the returning GI's to work and to keep both interest rates and unemployment rates low.

There are progressives that are out there right now that are tired of how the "In Crowd" is dealing down a nasty deal on the "Out Crowd" (And this "Out Crowd" includes 96& of us Americans.)

I entertain a reawakening of the Sleeping Giant. Anyone affected by this SellOut should be interested in reviewing the C Span footage of today's progressive Congress people. From More to Van Hollen to Lee, they were united in their efforts to keep America America.

Those three people will get my time and my efforts next year. The "Bipartisan" Democrats will not.

115. This is what makes me so angry,
he had the opportunity to change and reform, the best chance in a generation, and he pissed it away.

Of course the Republicans opposed him, that's what they do - but he gave in, despite the enormous popular support he had. For that, he deserves the criticism he is receiving here.

He had so much popular support he could have done ANYTHING had he used to bully pulpit to support a progressive agenda. He pissed it all away.
