OH SHIT: Debt deal contains large spending cuts but only the possibility of future revenue increases

Obama Presses Skeptical Dem Leaders On Big Deal With Boehner
Brian Beutler | July 21, 2011, 1:26PM

A Congressional aide briefed on ongoing negotiations between House Speaker John Boehner and President Obama says the two principals may be nearing a "grand bargain" on to raise the debt limit which would contain large, set-in-stone spending cuts but only the possibility of future revenue increases.

"All cuts," the aide said. "Maybe revenues some time in the future."

The status of negotiations has Democratic aides on both sides of the Capitol nervous and unhappy. And the notion that the impasse over the debt limit may be nearing an end is sparking denials from both the White House and Boehner's office -- in part, perhaps, because neither side has buy-in from their parties on a consensus plan.

2. NYT reported they were close, then the WH said the NYT was wrong,
so don't put a lot of faith in this "aide" just yet. We won't know FOR SURE until we hear from Obama or an Official Spokesperson.

This is making me crazy! Hurry up, you guys!!!!

4. They are still negotiating, there is no story to be told yet and...
..the "all cuts, no revenue" came from a Congressional aide. Notice, party affiliation wasn't included. (from the comments)

7. Once the "bargain" is reached
and the cuts are made pubic, and "entitlements" get slashed it'll be too late. The bargain has already been made. All in the secrecy of this transparency administration.

18. Why are you shouting?
It doesn't make a silly statement less silly.

There are facts. There are plans being discussed. There is a real chance that bad things are about to happen. Let's suppose the ideas from the OP are true and that Obama is about to sign a bill that will cut trillions in services and support for the poor and elderly in exchange for a promise from republicans (we know what that is worth) that they will think about maybe raising a little money from somewhere maybe later if they feel like it and it doesn't affect the rich people's tax cuts. Suppose the might be being considered. Do you have an opinion on that? Do you think it might be a good idea to say something about it?

between informing your government reps what your feelings are and declaring "Debt deal contains" this or that. By all means call your reps and express your opinions. Do it now! Of course this is the time. I have done so to my Rep. ..But there is NO EFFING DEAL YET.

19. Suppose
the president signs a compromise that cuts services and support for the poor and elderly without any creditable promise for substantial revenue coming from rich people and flourishing corporations.

You have indicated that you don't feel like protesting before it happens, but how about after? If that kind of deal is cut, can we count on you to register your disgust with the WH then?

25. Clever but . . .
What if the ideas from the OP are true and Obama is about off on a deal that will cut trillions in services and support for the poor and elderly in exchange for a promise from republicans that they will maybe raise a little money from somewhere maybe later if they feel like it and it doesn't affect the rich people's tax cuts or corporate welfare?

Would you want to say something after it has happened? Would that sort of "deal" be okay with you?

You know. Just asking if you have an opinion on the subject.
