McKenna to announce for governor Wednesday

Washington state GOP Attorney General Robert McKenna will formally launch his campaign for governor Wednesday, two Republicans with knowledge of the kick-off tell POLITICO.

McKenna, by far the Evergreen State's most popular Republican, is set to announce his gubernatorial bid at Sammamish High School at 7 p.m.

One Washington state Republican said he's been asked to round-up supporters for the event and a Sammamish school official confirmed its performing arts center has been reserved by the King County Republican Party that evening.

McKenna's entry into the race has been long anticipated, but is not surprising. The timing coincides with the end of a special legislative session, which Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire has described as "the most challenging in 80 years."

My response has been, "you know, I bet there were a few lefties in Wisconsin who said the same thing when Scott Walker announced."
