It is one of the BIG differences between Democrats and Republicans.
I assume (dangerously) that most people here are already aware of this - Obama Pushed for ‘Fight Your Way Out’ Option in bin Laden Raid

There have been a couple of posts on DU - Here and Here that have gotten A LOT of recs and were on the Greatest Page for a long time.

BUT

I'm not sure why this isn't getting more play in the media. If it was a Republican President, it would be everywhere.

I've seen it mentioned in MODO's NYT column:

But now the president has shown he can lead straight-on and that, unlike Jimmy Carter, he knows how to order up that all-important backup helicopter

and

E.J. Dionne's column:

Obama is hard to understand because he is many things and not just one thing. He has now proved that he can be bold at an operational level, even as he remains cautious at a philosophical level. His proclivity to gather facts and weigh alternatives does not lead automatically, in the venerable phrase, to the paralysis of analysis. It can also end in daring action tempered by prudence -- for example, making sure that additional helicopters were available to our Navy SEALs.

but otherwise NADA!

It is one of the big differences between Democrats and Republicans.

(1) Bush ignored the warnings of Richard Clark and other Clinton Terrorism experts who warned the incoming Administration that OBL and AQ needed to be focused on. (2) Bush blew off the AQ warning in the PDB in August 2001 ("you covered your ass"). (3) The Bush Administration blew it at Tora Bora & let OBL get away. (4) The Bush Administration shifted focus off of OBL & AQ by invading Iraq. (5) The Bush Administration closed the OBL search unit in the CIA.

(Those are just the Bush Administration screw ups on OBL that I can remember off the top of my head.)

The Obama Administration put the focus TOTALLY back on finding OBL and AQ, dealing with Afghanistan, and counter-terrorism funding and resources.

YET - Republicans and Bush Administration cronies have the nerve to say they are not getting enough credit AND it is being parroted by the media & even some Dems (just by sticking the Bush Administration in with the Obama Administration when they want to give Obama, the Military and the Intelligence Community credit).

It.is.AMAZING.

Republicans have no shame and Dems are always trying to be gracious.

1. This is an excellent synopsis.......Thank you!
I hadn't seen a lot of this, and my eyes are open now.

Your last sentence says it ALL.

Recommended.

2. I feel somewhat conflicted because I agree with the President being gracious. He needs to be. That
is being a statesman.

I certainly understand Democrats doing the same.

The part that is just galling is the Republicans who are trying to turn this into a Bush victory in some way. Those who want to give him equal or more credit - that is just ridiculous - and those trying to rehab Bush's torture policy AND attacking President Obama for getting rid of it.

Really? Are you kidding me?

As usual, they have no shame.
