C.I.A. Closes Unit Focused on Capture of bin Laden

WASHINGTON, July 3 — The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials confirmed Monday.

The unit, known as Alec Station, was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned within the C.I.A. Counterterrorist Center, the officials said.

Obama successfully used the tools that Bush used that the Clinton Administration (via Richard Clarke, Sandy Berger, et. al) recommended Bush use PRIOR to 9/11. Bush didn't utilize any of those tools until AFTER 3000 people died on 09/11/01 and then he ended up basically giving up on finding Bin Laden circa 2002-2003 when he got bored of Afghanistan/Bin Laden and went on a tangent against Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Bush and Cheney also added their own "tools" to the toolbox, which just ended up making things a lot worse for our campaign against terrorism (i.e. Gitmo, torture).
