Bill Maher: The Rhetoric Of The Right Is “Wouldn’t It Be Fun To Kill The People We Disagree With

The folks in the audience for Jay Leno’s safe-for-all-audiences Tonight Show clearly would’ve rather had a visit from some cuddly zoo animals than what they got: an extended and at times awkwardly tense visit from HBO’s Bill Maher.

Talking about the shootings in Arizona and Fox News chief Roger Ailes‘ reported instructions to his staff to tone down language after Tucson, Maher argued it would never happen, as “that’s the rhetoric they love. The right wing loves- the go-to rhetoric for them is ‘wouldn’t it be fun to kill the people we disagree with.’”

When the audience groaned, Maher challenged them: “Do you read?”

As the relationship between Maher and the Tonight Show audience became openly hostile, Leno–true to form–retreated, saying nothing other than soft “yeahs” and “mm-hmms.”

Watch it here, from NBC:

8. Maher may have educated some people.
I know some people here think Leno and his audience are right wing, but I've personally noticed that many Leno fans are apolitical, neither left nor right wing. Maybe Maher's statements gave them something to think about.

10. Why don't you just load the guns for them Bill?
All to often we provide the "enemy" with the ammo needed in this "war".

This time, Bill Maher might as well have loaded their rifles for them!

The ass-hats on the right have a very selective memory, but they will jump all over this one.

You know what, Sarah, honey, if we were going to get rid of useless people, you would be the first to go." --Bill Maher

There is no easier target than a hypocrite, and I for one despise hypocritical behavior.

Thank you for painting us ALL as such Bill, now do us a favor, shut the fuck up!

15. I'm not a fan of Maher nor Leno yet I am more than pleased that Leno
invited him on and brought up Palin and Murdoch...that was evidently planned. Kudos to Leno.

For Maher, he represented well imo the concerns I have about Democrats not fighting back. His
wise ass remark asking the audience if they read was more than appropriate..I love that he
challenged them.

Interesting by the end he receives a fair amount of applause..overall very good.

21. If the Democrats had a clue, they'd trumpet the "well-regulated" part of the 2nd Amd. continuously.
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 06:20 PM by trayNTP
The GOP and NRA constantly omit the word "well-regulated" from any discussion of the 2nd Amendment, and wimpy Democrats never elevate it to the top of the issue.

It's the first meaningful word of the 2nd Amendment. It covers every other word within the freaking line.

If guns are not "well-regulated", then whatever you're doing with them is unconstitutional. Of course the right-wing SCROTUS would disagree, but that is really what the "Founders" intended, and Democrats need to start speaking for them just like Republicans try to do.

WELL-REGULATED.

GOP = "bearing arms" is Constitutional.
Dems should = "well-regulated" (gun control) is Constitutional.
