Rachel Maddow: If you have health insurance you get automatic psychiatric care, if needed.
Did anyone know this? I didn't know this. Apparently in the health care bill. If you have health insurance, the health insurance is required by the health bill to pay for psychiatric care if you need it...

I did not know this. Apparently Rachel Maddow...suggested that this is also one of the reasons why the vote won't happen or also was delayed. Because if this is provided, and apparently it has been provided since the health care bill went into effect, unfortunately people didn't know about it. If they repeal it---then they repeal this provision.

If this person needs psychiatric as has been said by all in the media and politicians left and right. This is provided in the health care reform bill they want to repeal---which leads to uproar.

I found this very interesting. Thoughts? Did or Did not, anyone else know this? Cause I sure didn't know that.

1. My health insurance has always covered psychiatric care. Luckily, I've never had to use it.
Knock on wood.

2. She said that people with insurance will get written notification of this service soon
Did she say that the notice will be in the mail this week? I was just walking into the room when she was reporting on this. Thx.

4. Oooh...can't remember the exact details. I was under the impression it was in effect.

Because she said the letter is going in the mail to specifically state that it is part of the bill and so the health insurance companies are now going to provide the letter to all people in the US.

3. Did that provision go in effect immediately, or not until 2014?
Either way, I guess, it would look bad for the Rethugs to repeal it right now.

7. Immediate. Because she said that there would be a letter stating it explicitly.
So I was given the impression that it was in effect, but people didn't know because of just the bad representation of the health care bill. So because of this incident there is a letter going out specifying that it's part of the bill and American citizens with health insurance get automatic help. However, it is in effect. It would look very bad.

5. Don't think we need to worry about repeal
We need to worry about republicans underfunding HCR and undermining it's effectiveness.

6. I doubt very seriously that removal of psychiatric help would cause an uproar...
.... if they (falsely) think you're taking their guns away they freak out. If you try to take medical care away from those who need it, they could care less.

Optimistic thinking though. ;)

8. Well after this incident. With someone who obviously needed help.
I think, people will be a bit more vigilant and will start to watch if they have friends or family exhibiting strange actions or thoughts and recommend them to get some medical help. So I think, if the 112th Congress goes repeal---they're going to get some shit. Because it's part of the health care bill.

I think in regards to Rachel's thought...it's valid.

12. A corollary I am under Medicare and Medicaid
I guess my point is just because you have insurance does not mean that you have access to care. The Wellstone bill I thought was to make that funding available in insurance but it probably had so many exceptions or later bills as to make it moot.

My choices: I can have them pay directly (well actually they hire someone to manage my care for $640 a month now that the state was privatizing but that is true for Advantage care too but they also get insurance premiums.)and I can stay with the doctor who after a downward spiral of 15 years turned that around and gave me my life back. I saw at least 100 doctors trying to get a diagnosis and not have any psychiatrist handle my chronic Depression because reimbursement is horrible $20 for a visit. Veterinarians get much more than that or

have Medicare advantage pay enough to get a psychiatrist to help me and end up at the mercy of gatekeepers. 15 years after my diagnosis my doctor and I wanted me to see a neurologist to see if there were any new treatments that might help. After being triaged by a PA I was sent to the Department head of one of the largest Hospital medical groups in the area. I do not know what his problem is. He has the relevant tests and records from two other neurologists, one an MS expert and an immunologist and he decides I am not sick, it is all the depression. I have brain lesions and documented permanent physical damage.

Advantage care runs at least 25% more than direct care. I guess we will see how this all will play out but I feel that our Congress critters are letting corporations write these laws and in the end we will be screwed yet again.

13. I had a free meeting with a therapist when I was very depressed about my working conditions...
She told me to get a decent job, which made me laugh...better already.
