Time for "Progresssives" to put on some balls and start smacking down these violent TeaScum RePukes!
Edited on Sat Jan-08-11 06:10 PM by RBInMaine
(By "smacking down" I of course mean rhetorically, organizationally, and politically - not physically.)

Now it is PERSONAL. People are dead. At least one kid is dead. And Palin and other TeaSludge were allowed to get away with screaming, yelling, kicking, pushing, shoving, violent websites, talk of "locking and loading" and "second amendement remedies," and then out of the same mouth talking about how much they love God and Jesus. Remember the girl who was stomped last fall by a TeaScum? When in all hell are "progressives" going to grow a pair and start smashing down this crap? When are "progressives" going to learn once and for all that you don't defeat bullies with "mediation" and "talk" and all that nicey nicey nonsense. You stand up to them hard, out-rally them bigtime, and SHUT THEM THE HELL DOWN. You ORGANIZE against their rotten tactics, and you make sure it is NOT TOLERATED.

Want to learn how to do it? You Tube the likes of Hughey Long, FDR, Give-Em-Hell Harry, JFK, and Alan Grayson. They'll show you how.

5. What I HAVE been doing. Working the leather off my shoes to defeat RePUKES and responding to them
hard, at least rhetorically.

16. So it's all about beating Republicans and not actually being progressive, for you. No Thanks.
I would rather be a progressive with values instead of having one mindset ideology that doesn't do anyone any good.

I'm not changing my values to fit your needs. n/t

8. "Progressive" needs to mean just that, political progress and not political purity. Some who call
themselves "progressive" should call themselves purists. "Progressive" does not rule out reality and practicality. Given the environment we are in now, we also need to take a stand and make "progress" against this nasty right wing rhetoric and the nasty right wing behaviors that have been tolerated by spineless "progressives." "Progressive" doesn't mean being an ultra-idealistic wimp. FDR and Harry Truman were progressive, and they won WW2. JFK was a progressive, and he had no problem taking a bat to the Russians and the RePUKES. I use the quotation marks because I feel in too many cases the term "progressive" has been co-opted and misapplied. Certainly not in all cases, but in too many. Politics is tough business in America and everywhere, as it should be. It is about getting and using power. It is not for the faint of heart, and Americans like strong leaders. All too often we have allowed the RePUKES to wear the mantle of strength, and progressives need to re-claim it. Responding strongly to right wing violent talk and actions is a very good place to start.

17. That's what you want progressive to mean. JFK was not
a progressive. I challenge anyone to produce one piece of solid progressive legislation that JFK passed. The biggest challenge facing JFK was civil rights, and he kicked the can down the road.

10. Then stop supporting capitulating to them and adopting their stupid bullshit
We can cease pretending they are the loyal opposition with the best for our nation at heart but certain "pragmatic" types can't have that.

Defeat but adopt, emulate, and capitulate???? Yeah, right. Just bluster to get your self up for some good ole hippie punching. Fucking weak bullshit and Reich wing-lite hogwash dressed up as a call to arms when who you really hate is liberals.

POIT!!!!!

11. K&R...I agree, OP, but I doubt any such thing will happen-leftists are too involved
with attacking each other and being "better" people while our country is taken over completely by RW idiots, manipulators and sociopaths.

But, hey, we're "better" than they are, and hate to get our hands dirty...

liberals say that Obama and Dems in Congress need to "grow a spine." Fine, some do. But what about our rank and file? Some (not all) stand in the circular firing squad against our own for not being "progressive" enough, don't even vote as if that is going to "punish" D's who aren't "progressive" enough, and yet don't organize and unite against the most base and vile right wing rhetoric and actions leaving a vacuum always filled by the right wingers. These scumbags have been ALLOWED to control the rhetoric because too many "progressives" refuse to unite, grow that very spine they say the policians need, and stand up to these sickening right wing venom spitters. How in hell these TeaScum were able to get away with shouting down Dem politicians over healthcare time and again is beyond me. How in hell they were able to intimidate schools to not show the President talking to school kids about working hard in school is beyond me.

Politics is TOUGH business. Bill Clinton was good because he was damn smart AND damn TOUGH, as was Truman, FDR, JFK, and LBJ. McGovern, Carter, Mondale, and Dukakis all lost (Carter after his first term) largely in part because they did not portray themselves as strong leaders, plain and simple.

Time to learn from the Harry Truman style and take it the hell back. "Progressives" need to get out of that circular firing squad, identify the real political adversary (the right wing TeaRePukes), and take the political fight straight to their groins. It is becoming clear that this shooter had right wing views (regardless of any actual party affiliation). The nastiness of the TeaPukes and Palin with their violent rhetoric about "locking and loading" on Dems, using "2nd amendment remedies" etc. should be forcefully CONDEMNED and pounded down hard at every damn turn. Hopefully this incident will finally shake "progressives" (and moderates as well) to start doing just that in a more organized, vocal, and political way. Time to TOUGHEN UP AND TAKE IT BACK.

14. What? The idea of actually getting tough politically and standing up to right wingers? It's actually
been around a while. If you tolerate their nasty bullshit, they'll keep doing it. If you organize against it and condemn it forcefully at every turn, they'll level off. You don't deal with bullies who use threats, lies, screaming and yelling, etc. by being "nice" to them.

....tried to assassinate a Democratic congresswoman, we should ramp up our own vitriol to match that on the right?

20. Ramp up vitriol against the RW? Absolutely!
What they claim we are doing . . . they are actually doing. They are now shooting at us.

So do you still think that their ideas deserve equal footing in what is supposed to be reasonable debate and discourse?

I want to see the Obama administration come down on the RW with the full force of the Justice Department for this. I want them to be deathly afraid to even think of doing anything like this ever again.

Some obviously mentally ill nut, whose ideology you can hardly identify with any certainty at this point (if he had any real ideology at all), tried to kill a Democratic Congresswoman and you think that means the right wing is shooting at us?

You are making connections at this point that may well not exist. While we rightfully agree that tea party politics is "insane", its members are rarely actually mentally ill. This Loughner appears, through his mish mash of writings, to possibly be a paranoid schizophrenic and not a tea party or necessarily even a right winger at all. His assassination attempt hardly qualifies as "they are shooting at us now".

edited for spelling
