Daley: is a signal that Obama recognizes that his relationship w/Congress will be much less helpful
Edited on Fri Jan-07-11 12:49 AM by Clio the Leo
Daley Is Obama's New Chief

Choosing Daley, a well-respected Washington-and-Chicago figure, is a further signal that Obama ties the fate of his presidency to the fate of the economy and recognizes that his relationship with Congress will be much less helpful than a better rapport with the nation’s employers and job creators.

Daley’s resume, while carrying an impressive record of public service, has a record in the private sector that may help improve relations with the business community.

On Friday, after the Labor Department releases its latest jobs report, Obama will promote Gene Sperling to head his National Economic Council, a position he held in the Clinton administration, and announce a series of new economic team members, officials said. But Daley's conservative personal mien and reputation for straight-shooting centrism could help the president broker deals with Republicans on legislation -- like raising the debt ceiling -- that are vital to simply keep the government operating.

1. "brokering a deal with Republicans on the debt ceiling."
Gives us (GOP) all these cuts and we will raise the
debt ceiling.

Business rules--and this is Obama's chance at a 2ond
term.

Remember when Wall Street especially the Hedge Funds
turned on Obama and started pouring money into Republican
Campaigns along with the Chamber of Commerce. They
were angry over Wall Street Reforms including Elizabeth
Warrens Consumer Protection Agency. They wanted the
South Koran Trade Agreement which had been slowed.

BTW some of those Hedge Funders have taken a shine
to Bachman. Watch her financials. Watch her bring
forth legislation to repeal all Wall Street Reforms.

Now we see the down and dirty. Is there any doubt
who rules???

2. But we have always known that, haven't we? Those of us
on the Rad Left have never thought of capitalism as anything but a cruel and self-destructive force. The now-vanished liberal Democrats understood some of this and tried to ameliorate the vicious cycles with some success. They have been succeeded by the Rand/Friedman/Geithner gang and there is no chance for social change in the U.S. through the normal political methods.

4. Ridiculous.

Nothing will help Obama with the House perceptionally. The purpose of the tea party movement is to give the uninformed voters of the right the delusion Obama is real liberal or socialist. Daley is there to help provide some legislative victories for Obama. They will work together (Obama and the Republicans) in doing so.

5. He basically hired Leo McGarry to be his chief of staff.
If anyone watched The West Wing, they'll remember Leo as the epitome of blue-blood Democrats--very willing and able to knock heads together, able to corral and control a huge number of staffers, and the ability to be the the steel gauntlet around the President's fist.
