Norway's queen on wives, reporters

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama met with the king and queen of Norway Thursday, holding a pool spray at the Slottet Royal Palace ahead of the Nobel Prize ceremony.

As King Harald V and Queen Sonja greeted the first couple, Michelle Obama paused to remove lint from her husband's lapel, according to the pool. Thrown off, the president began to say: "This is what -" before the queen interrupted to finish: "-they are for."

The pool adds: "Meaning wives."

Noting the hectic press activity around the Obamas, the queen asked the president: "Are you used to this?"

He replied: "Unfortunately?"

3. Joe Klein added this tidbit: "There was a fun bit of byplay between the President and First Lady

earlier in the morning, at a small ceremony where Obama was asked to sign the Nobel Guest Book. The President wrote and wrote--in his tiny, precise script, his left hand curled torturously around the back of the pen--and finally his wife asked, "What are you writing, a book?"

The First Lady was then asked to add a few words: "Mine will be shorter," she said.

"She will resist writing something sarcastic," the President said, "since this will be recorded for the future."'
