Basically, Repubs and Teabaggers believe the bad economy and the high unemployment...
Edited on Mon Oct-11-10 08:45 PM by kentuck

...are the result of Obama's policies. The President's supporters believe he inherited these problems from George W Bush and the Republicans. That is the disconnect in the political argument.

How could they possibly believe such nonsense? Because they are stupid or ignorant? Or is there another reason?

Although most Repubs at the time were for the TARP bailout, now most of them are against it. In hindsight, since the economy did not totally collapse - as it appeared it might, they now agree with the Teabaggers that it was a bad idea.

They never believed the economy was really that bad. Even the President said it would not go over 8%. This high unemployment is directly the result of "Obamacare" and the big-spending "stimulus" bill signed by President Obama. Never mind that we were already in the midst of a deep recession when the stock market and the banks collapsed. Never mind that most of the costs of "Obamacare" have not yet gone into effect. Never mind that the "stimulus" was much smaller than what most economists suggested was needed. It doesn't matter. There is a disconnect with the facts and until these Teabaggers are informed of these facts, they will continue to believe at they do now...

1. Some idiot at the barber shop was going on about how WMD were
dumped in "the river" by the "republican army" in Iraq & thats why we didn't find them.

The guy really made a point out of it & there was general agreement in the god damn place.

This is the kind of utter stupidity we are dealing with.

2. At our county fair this year
The tea bagger party had a stand up and were trying to get people to vote on things like:

Results of the informal poll showed that out of 29 respondents:
-28 approve of mandatory balanced budgets in government.
-26 do not want any tax increases.
-26 believe the federal government has exceeded the authority delegated under the U.S. Constitution.
-25 think federal agencies must be reined in by Congress.
-25 want across-the-board state spending cuts.
McClanahan said the leadership of the local Tea Party movement didn’t vote.

There are usually around a thousand or so people at the fair, and yet they only had 29 people who voted. An earlier picture in the local paper showed them at another tea bagger function and there was probably about 29 people total in the picture. Not a very good showing to get only 29 people who were probably all members of the tea party, out of around a thousand, and this county is about as red as the get! When the tea baggers are to radical for republicans, then I think this should tell us something. Granted the republicans are not going to be voting for democrats, but they also aren't voting for the tea party crowd either. In the primaries not one tea party type was elected, just the same old republicans. Same thing happened with the senate race, the tea bagger candidates lost, both of them to the same republican that has lost twice running for governor!

I think the tea party crowd, and the republican party are not going to be happy after the elections this year. As you said, we are dealing with a lot of stupidity this year, but I think there will be a lot of mainstream republicans who when faced with voting for a "nut job" tea bagger, will instead just stay home and not vote at all!
