An ad from Kentucky Democratic Senate candidate Jack Conway goes after his Republican opponent, Rand Paul, with video of Paul saying, "The real answer to Medicare would be a $2,000 deductible." Cue the indignation of elderly voters.
The ad shows a series of, presumably, senior citizens lambasting Paul's proposal, calling it "crazy" and accusing Paul of being "off the wall." "Doesn't he know that we can't afford that?" says one voter.
Conway has out-raised Paul, who has received significant support from the tea party (including an endorsement from former Alaska governor Sarah Palin). The two candidates have adopted very different strategies during the election. Paul has taken a more national approach, lambasting the Obama administration and extolling the virtues of capitalism. Conway has kept his focus more local, with talk of his work as attorney general.
Both candidates have agreed to debate on Fox News in October.
