The Dem. groups hosting the Oct. 2nd "One Nation Working Together" rally are doing a LOUSY job

advertising it. Ben Jealous of the NAACP was on Morning Joe this morning and just mentioned "the rally Saturday" once and in passing while discussing education. The NAACP is one of the organizations RUNNING the thing yet he didn't even talk about it, let alone ask people to join him, go to it, support it.

If there aren't many people there it'll be their own fault. Why does nobody but Ed Schultz talk about it? Here's the website for it: http://www.onenationworkingtogether.org/partners

1. i think so too. some of the unions/organizers involved don't have anything up on their websites.
Edited on Wed Sep-29-10 02:43 PM by Hannah Bell
it's almost like they don't *want* a big turnout.

yet i think it will be better than the turnout for the baggers' event, advertised non-stop by "both sides" of the msm.

real grassroots national politics in the us appears effectively dead. i wouldn't be surprised if jon stewart's turnout tops everyone's.

what a joke.

4. They're pushing local activities here in AZ, on facebook and political networks.
They should have it on their websites but unions tend to get info out via word-of-mouth.

5. It makes me so mad! Ed Schultz keeps bragging that they're gonna get more than 300,000 people
there, but I don't see HOW when nobody except his audience knows about it (or is told about it).

15. I'll be there as well. Jealous is incredibly ineffective. At the Sharpton rally
last month, he received a very cold reception. Many people are still angry at him for how he treated Shirley Sherrod.

2. Organized labor is pushing it bigtime and there are going to be walks all over the country this Sat.
I can't make it to the one in Phoenix but lots of people are going and they said they expect a good crowd in DC from neighboring states.

7. They're not pushing it bigtime if most people still don't know about it.
Putting it on their websites is pretty basic. The more exposure, the more turnout = also pretty basic. That's not just for their members, it's for the public generally, as people other than union members might like to come, or organize events.

And like the OP said, the fact that the NAACP rep was on TV & didn't give details shows piss-poor organizing effort.

There may be a big turnout, but there could be an even bigger one with a better organizing effort. In my immediate circle i'm the only person who knew anything about it & it's only because I'm a news junkie.

3. I've known about this for weeks. Bought 3 tix to fly to D.C. quite a while ago. cont'd.

I think there will be an enormous amount of people there, there are many, many groups being represented, and they will be brining their people in. I have my fingers crossed for a very successful rally!

8. This Isn't An MSNBC Sponsored Event
Edited on Wed Sep-29-10 03:01 PM by otohara
they don't want to come off as the official network of the rally as FOX did for the Tea-Baggers.

Ed Schultz IMO has bitten off more than he can handle - boasting he can pull in 300,000 is insane. Just based on news-cable ratings, radio ratings and the fact that progressive stations ARE NOT in every damn city like the wingnuts are, chances of getting hundreds of thousands of people there won't be easy.

I'm not even sure Comedy Central could pull in 300k

I'm a former radio promotions director - Ed did not give himself enough time to do this right.

I hope I'm wrong.

9. True, but someone on their network is speaking there and prmoting it...
and you'd think at LEAST when someone like Ben Jealous is ON MSNBC he could talk about it a little. I agree this was not handled well.

11. Add CNN & MSNBC Talking About Tea Rally 24/7
prior to the event.

This rally is not being talked about at all especially since Jon Stewart announced his.

FOX will weigh in only if it's a bust and they will gloat.

and as I said on another thread, MSNBC and CNN DO talk about the Stewart/Colbert rallies even though THEY aren't being sponsored by MSNBC nor CNN.

She seemed very excited.

needs more publicity.

16. E. J. Dionne mentioned the ONE NATION march in his column today lamenting the lack of publicity and
said this happens when Fox News is allowed to set the agenda.

I'm glad E.J. Dionne wrote about it but it's sad that he HAD to.

22. On MSNBC, covering it for the first time, they said that organizers are expecting
100,000 people to be there. If that turns out to be true, I'll be happily shocked. I agree that the Cobert/Stewart rallies aren't helping. They're taking away all the attention from THIS one.
