Mass Sen. Race: Candidate Martha Coakley wins key backing from Bill Clinton
Edited on Sun Dec-06-09 11:36 PM by FrenchieCat

Attorney General Martha Coakley has earned a key voice of support: Former president Bill Clinton has recorded a telephone message that will be blasted out tomorrow to 500,000 voters urging them to elect her.

"Martha Coakley will go to Washington to fight every day to create good jobs with good benefits and to get health reform with a strong public option," Clinton says in the message. "You can trust her to get results in the Senate just as she has as your Attorney General. This election is very important to Massachusetts. So don't forget to vote tomorrow and please vote for Martha Coakley."

In a US Senate campaign that has included numerous endorsements, Clinton’s is the most prominent and comes at a key moment before primary voters head to the polls on Tuesday.

It could also help galvanize some of Coakley’s most ardent supporters. Coakley is hoping to become the first female US Senator from Massachusetts and has courted many of the women who were active in the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton, the former president’s wife and the current secretary of state.

Current Massachusetts Attorney General, Martha Coakley has emerged as the leader in recent polls as well as in fundraising. Born in North Adams in the far west of the state, Coakley is the only candidate to have run a state-wide campaign before. She was elected as Middlesex District Attorney in 1998 where she served 8 years and was elected Attorney General in 2006. To visit her website, click here.

Alan Khazei co-founded one of the most successful service programs in the United States and he is looking to bring this experience to Washington. Currently the CEO of Be the Change Inc., another well-renowned non-profit organization, Khazei is seeking his first elected office. To visit his website, click here.

As co-owner of a successful sports franchise, Steve Pagliuca is looking to transition from the business world to representing Massachusetts in the Senate. 4. Haven't been following that closely, since I no longer live in MA ... but
I see this poll from Nov. 24 with Coakley ahead by 15 pts.: 36-21 (with other primary contestants getting the remainder). http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections2/election_2010/election_2010_senate_elections/massachusetts/election_2010_massachusetts_democratic_senate_primary

I only got interested in the race because I still receive info. from the organization of which I was a part during the time I lived there: Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts. They endorsed Capuano with some compelling reasons.
I'm sure Coakley will be fine, however (I hope).

7. I'm voting Coakley but would be absolutely fine with Capuano.
I just don't want Steve Pagliuca anywhere near the nomination.

5. Of course. Anyone who is running against the Kennedy family's candidate will have Bubba's blessing.

6. It sure seems like they're trying to shove another DLC'er into this seat
And if that's the case - to take the seat held by Ted Kennedy for 47 years, and by his brother before that, and hand it over to some fake "Democrat" corporatist DINO - then that would be truly sickening. :evilfrown:
