Everyone woke up and had their cup of coffee yet... SS commission, Simpson etc....
which we all know by now is mandated repubs and Democrats in equal numbers. The republicans are opening themselves up to be hammered by the 60 plus generation who turns out to vote in large numbers. They are being exposed as wanting to cut social security.

When you put everything on the table.. you see who gets behind what dish. If you get my drift. ;)

1. it seems
like the gop wants to cut ss, but it's the dems allowing it to happen. if ss is monkeyed with expect the dems to be a long time in the wilderness.

5. The repubs are going to cut social security and get the Democrats blamed for it
Pretty smart move on their part. If it happens anytime in the next 2 years they'll beat Obama about the head and shoulders 24-7 and he'll get his ass kicked in the 2012 presidential election.

And if he lets them get away with this he'll deserve it. The problem is the country does not deserve and may not survive another thieving republican administration.

6. America will get what it deserves
if the centrists and apathetic "left" want another GOP admin, they they just gotta do what they've been doing so far for the past 2 years.

The right wing will try again to drown the baby in the bathtub.

9. They are not going to cut social security
I know you are holding your breath in anticipation to continue your rampage against Obama, but you may as well exhale now. They will raise FICA taxes most definitely, and they may add another incentive for late retirement like they have now, but that will be the extent of it.

2. the internet "left" seems paralyzed with fear
Instead of alerting the people to what the GOP wants to do with SS, the internet "left" is more focused on pissing our pants about what Democrats want to do. Its perplexing.

4. Loyalists and centrists present a greater threat to the Public
Edited on Thu Aug-26-10 05:17 PM by xchrom
Than repukes - they after all are out of power.

Repukes and centrists happen to share some goals in
This case.

There is no crisis in SS - no need for a commission.

7. I think I see President Obama's strategy in this, and it's not necessarily bad.
Since the SS Commission has to be equal numbers of Repubs and Dems, might as well let the Repubs throw their looney-tunes on the commission, watch them threaten to axe Social Security, then hammer the fuck out of them on this issue in the election.

As long as Obama makes it crystal clear to the nation that it's the Republicans on the SS Commission that want to take the axe to social security, and as long as Obama himself makes it crystal clear that he's working to protect it, this will play our way!

11. But the Dems on the commission
Edited on Thu Aug-26-10 10:35 PM by jeanpalmer
also seem willing to reduce benefits.

"Are Republicans willing to sign onto a tax increase, and are Democrats ready to sign onto a benefit cut? I think the answer is probably yes in both cases if the other is willing to do it," said Alice Rivlin, a Democrat and former White House budget director.

I think that's the "compromise" that is shaping up. Republicans will agree to increase FICA taxes and Dems will agree to cut benefits (through an increase in the age for eligibility, or through reductions in the COLA, or both). No way would Obama go against such a bipartisan agreement. On the contrary, he would hail it as a singular achievement. And his supporters would list it in his accomplishments. You'll see.

12. For what? The whole thing shouldn't even exist and you want to pretend it is some
clever trap.

Meanwhile, there is no trap except for the sheep fixing to be fleeced and slaughtered as usual.

I'm sure Conrad and Baucus are really just spinning the web.

Fuck chess, that shit is a lie. The only motherfuckers getting played is John and Jane Q. Public.

Wonder who created this commission by executive order.

repubs and Dems in equal numbers - really? Maybe you should check that as well as the mandate by Obama.

14. Umm, who appointed this commission?
Oh, yeah, Obama, a Democrat. Who set the rules up for this commission? Oh, yeah, Obama, a Democrat. Who arranged for an up or down no amendments allowed vote on whatever comes to the House from this commission? Oh, yeah, Pelosi, a Democrat.

Do you honestly think that people are to dumb to figure out what is going on? That we don't know who's fingerprints are all over this one? Please, don't insult my intelligence.
