I also think Fox News deserves a chance to defend itself against the claim from NAACP President Ben Jealous that his organization was "snookered" by Fox News. This is an example of blaming a media outlet that in this case, at least, is not necessarily the party that deserves the heavy blame. Fox News reported nothing on air until Sherrod had already resigned as far as I can tell -- and a resignation like that is absolutely news. According to Sherrod, furthermore, the resignation was demanded by the Obama administration, which could have made a big difference by questioning the video and saying it was looking into the matter on its own.

For instance, on yesterday's program on Fox News Glenn Beck aired the complete unedited tape of her remarks and defended her. I don't think we should rush to judgment about Fox's role in this any more than we should have rushed to judgment about Ms. Sherrod's remarks before we had all the facts. They could have done what CNN did, easily. Just examine the facts of the incident with an investigation BEFORE firing her. She should sue for the treatment of her by this administration and the USDA Under-Secretary; that harassed this 60 year old women on the road, driving to an assignment, demanding her to resign.

At this point, I am seriously having great issues with the Obama Administration, as an African-American. Bill Clinton (who I consider my favorite President) would have stood up against this charge or at least had his staff investigate the situation, BEFORE taking action.

Hopefully, someone in the Democratic party will have to courage to primary challenge President Obama in 2012. Otherwise, after this incident, many African-Americans just might stay home, than give another vote this this individual.

Asking Shirley Sherrod to resign was the wrong kind of decision. Yet it was actually the second mistake made leading up to that eventuality. The first mistake was relying upon FOX media for anything resembling factual information. Yet, I'm of the opinion that the White House insisted upon Ms. Sherrod's resignation knowing full well that there was no legitimate basis for such insistence. Rather, I feel, that decision was a spineless, cowardly act taken to assuage the ignorant, racist viewers of FOX Media.

It is not too late to correct the mistake: Apologize to Ms. Sherrod and reinstate her to her rightful position...even if it costs President Obama a second term. I'm not certain that I could support anyone who could so callously ruin someone else's career by trying to appease madmen."

I am your base and I've very politically active and you seem to be squandering your mandate. Howard Dean has said that if you don't use your mandate, you will loose it.

Please realize Republicans will continue striving to "break you" no matter how much you accommodate them. Don't alienate your base to appease people that will never support you no matter what you do.

Lastly, could you please show America that you are for we the people instead of the corporations? Our Founding Father's would be aghast at the level of corporate influence permeating our government. George Allen's "Macaca" moment happened in the present, and I haven't seen anything to suggest that he felt very sorry for it. Sherrod's racist moment happened 24 years ago, and was apparently followed by an epiphany that not only caused her to rethink her beliefs, but led her to work so hard to help the Spooners that they are singing her praises to this day. The two incidents are not comparable.

Who cares if she still had "negative feelings," if she was able to understand that they were wrong and rise above them? The people she helped don't seem to care, and they're the ones who were supposedly the 'victims' of her former racism.

But beyond that, you seem to be pushing very hard on the whole reverse racism angle in this case. I'm not sure how long you've been on DU, but I think you're going to find yourself being challenged over and over again when it comes to this, and rightly so. The NAACP's "scud" at the Tea Party was well-deserved and long overdue, imo. And I know I am not alone in believing that, not by far.
