How Dems Can Have A Damn Good Election Cycle In 2010
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 03:35 PM by RBInMaine
Oh yes, the corporate MSM is pushing their narrative that Dems will take a huge beating in November. But that is by no means certain in any way. The dangerous piece is Indys and the continued high unemployment rate. Sadly, enough of these Indys aren't seeing that Dems didn't make the mess and have worked pretty hard to clean it up. Obama said it would take "YEARS" do get out of this mess. But they are frustrated, impatient, and the party in power always bears that brunt. Still, keeping our congressional majorities and losses to a minimum is entirely doable, and Dems should actually be pleased and damn energized about the prospects. Here's why:

The RePUKES will run on three arguments:

1) The stimulus is a failure and enemployment is still too high.
2) We are in too much debt, thanks to Dems.
3) Taxes are too high.
**Also, the RePUKES are relying heavily on TeaHater turnout for their many TeaHater candidates.

So what do we do?

1) We march out ads with testimonials by private businesses that have been helped by the stimulus, ads that show the job growth charts (Obama vs. Bush), and we SHOUT how we can not risk going BACKWARDS.

2)We argue night and day that RePUKES turned Clinton's surplus into a huge deficit and that the deficit has been aggravated by the recession which Dems did not cause.

3) We showcase ads with testimonials on all the tax cuts and credits thanks to the stimulus and other bills passed by Obama/Dems.

4) Like Maddow did the other night, we tout all of our accomplishments (which are about to include landmark banking reform).

5)*** We tie the crazy TeaHaters and their BP corporate buddies around their necks with an anchor. We showcase how extreme and out of touch these RePUKES are with mainstream America, how in love they are with BP and corporate American, and we do it night and day with ad after ad. This populist message will resonate with many Indy moderates we need as well as energize the liberal base.

6) We talk jobs, jobs, jobs !

If we form these narratives, get moving right now, and work the grassroots hard, we go into November with a record of accomplishment, job growth (even if it is modest job growth), anti-BP/Corporate populism, and anti-TeaHater sanity on our side. There is no need whatsoever to doom and gloom. We have a lot to run on and to run against.

Any other ideas, I'd appreciate hearing them. This is a very healthy discussion. Thanks.

2. I would agree.
However it's the party, the groups with the money, that need to start putting out ads with the things you mentioned in them. Then it's the democrats in congress who can get on the TV Sunday talk shows and also bring out all the things you mentioned. Sure we as individuals can talk to people, but in mot cases if you don't have all the information in your hand, verified from some source the right wing will accept, it won't do much good, I know I have tried. The message has to get out on national TV, flyers, etc. All with a source to verify the information where people can go online and check it out for themselves, if they will.

Just last night I was talking to my nephew on the phone, an avid Glen Beck fan. Things turned to politics and he used Beck's talking points for every attack he made. I told him that he needs to actually verify that what he hears is really the truth and that if the right wing is so upset with what has happened, the bailouts, the banks, etc., why aren't they out in front of the corporate HQ's of those who go the bailouts, who made huge profits after getting the bailouts, instead of having rallies complaining about all their "rights" they are losing, yet none of them can name any rights they have lost! It's not going to be easy to get through to these people, the Beckerheads, the dittoheads and those who think Plain could actually run this country even though she can't do interviews with anyone but Fox news, and even then Bill O made her look stupid in his last interview with her!

The democrats have a good chance using the things you listed, now all they have to do is get out there and use the ammo the right has given them. They need to stand tall and go on the attack now and keep the right on the defense. Don't let up on them, keep hammering them on TV, radio, newspapers where ever they can get the message out. Give them a place to find the facts, link them to sites that will show the truth, not the right wing BS!

3. There are a lot of good arguments for keeping the Dems (i.e. ADULTS) in charge in Washington
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 04:18 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
It will be up to the DNC, the various Democratic candidates, and even President Obama to make them as forcefully as they can. In fact, I think that President Obama already made some of the best remarks on this ever when he told an audience (I can't remember whom he was speaking to) that the Republicans are like teenagers whom crashed their cars and are now demanding that their parents give them the keys back, which is about as apt a metaphor for the current political situation as I think that anybody can come up with.
Also, I think that we need to hammer the point home how obstructionist they have been- which has been the primary obstacle to getting ANYTHING done in Washington since 2009. There are some Dems whom have caused some problems in getting some pieces of legislation through but the distinction between Republicans and Democrats really can't get any clearer than pointing out how Republicans have been reflexively antagonistic towards ANYTHING that the Democrats and/or President Obama have proposed and that it's the Democrats whom are actually trying to address the problems that most people purportedly want solved and Republicans just want President Obama and the Democratic Party to fail so that they can worm their way back into power. Also, as Congressman Issa (R-CA) hinted at recently, they are also very eager to use whatever means they can to undo the 2008 election as well. Anybody who was paying attention to politics during Clinton's Presidency should know enough about the Republicans and their agenda to be motivated enough to get out and vote Democratic to make sure the Republicans aren't able to get back into power anytime in the foreseeable future (is forever too much to ask?)

7. The Pubs have a very WEAK AMMO DUMP....all they got is Money and Lies...
and a major operation to bolster the BIG LIE of the GOP....

Their appeal is Limited...NOT ENOUGH THESE DAYS TO OVERCOME THE STRONGER DEMS

The cool aid dudes and dudettes will turn on the Masters...

The DEMs, if one uses Logic, will do in its power to weaken the GOP Base.

Especially now that they are eating their own by internal squabbling...

The GOP lies is catching up and there is not a thing they can do but distract with more shit....

The GOP has nothing signif to offer....that is the bottom line

Unless Sen. Byrd's illness hasn't thrown a monkey wrench into the whole scenario.

12. Replace "3) Taxes are too high" with '3) Repeal healthcare'
and replace "what do we do" #2 with We ask 'what will Republicans do to fix the economy, raise taxes for the rich, let big oil continue to drill without regulations, and say no to every bill that lowers taxes for those making less that $250,000?'
