MSNBC Bashes Obama, While Matthews Plays Footsie with Oil Lobbyists
Throughout this crisis, Matthews, in particular, has bashed Obama's brains out, yet, when he had the chance to really stick it to the people DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for this crisis, he was soft as a jellyfish.

This week, Matthews had on former Senators Breaux (D) and Lott (R). Both are current lobbyists for the oil and gas industry. Both are directly responsible for the lax regulation on the industry because of their political ties and their ability, both in office and out, to tamper down or squish ANY AND ALL safety regulation on the industry.

It's this kind of bi-partisan, cozying up to industry that got us into this mess, and it goes a long way to explain Obama's lack of a full throttle attack on the industry as a whole. If he did everything that Matthews and his MSNBC brethen want him to do, then Obama risks losing key senators in congress and seeing a tsunami of oil money fall into the hands of the GOP.

Even his moritorium on off shore drilling is losing him political support and money as the voters in the Gulf states still want more drilling offshore even after this calamity.

Worst of all, Matthews knows this, and he's using this crisis just to show how tough he can be on Obama instead of being tough on the folks who created this mess.

1. Bingo. Obama walks the fine line.
Some people don't get that. He has to convince these types to change their entire way of lives AND their livelihoods. Not an easy task.
And Tweety, he KNOWS better.

4. Lott teed one up for Tweety by saying we should trust big oil but verify
Did Tweety respond by asking how we could verify without government regulators?

No, hell no.

I'm no fan of Tweety, but this swing-and-miss was blatant.

IMHO, Lott and Breaux appeared on the show to troll for more clients. Tweety had them on the show because they were big-name beltway players.

5. "Trust but verify?"
That's vintage Ronnie--and he was right, believe it or not! The way to verify is through strict regulations, not handshakes and pats on the back.
