5. Agree. There's no reason he can't put new solar panels on the WH, for example.
Looking back, Carter was pretty ballsy about the steps he took. It's a shame they were all reversed and dismantled.

8. It would be so fitting. And the technology is so much more advanced today
than when Carter did it, it should be easy and RELATIVELY inexpensive.

Wouldn't that be something?

I think I'll drop Obama an e-mail, and mention it to Rachel, Ed and Keith.

"We are happy to report that 23 years after the previous solar panels were removed, two solar thermal systems and a 9 kW photovoltaic (PV) solar electricity system have returned to the White House."

"These were removed in the Reagan era because of leakage problems, but around 2002 were reinstalled by the second Bush administration, along with new solar collector systems on the Swimming Pool cabana and groundskeeping building."

...to remove them for symbolic purposes.)

Carter's presidency took a nosedive quickly. He was handicapped by that crisis for most his full term. He was embarrassed by Ted Kennedy in the healthcare debate (failing to get anything off the ground), suffered from high inflation, a stagnant economy and a widening disconnect with the American people. That was even before his approval tanked and the energy crisis took hold.

Obama does have crisis. However, it hasn't sunk his presidency and through it all, he still managed to get more done in his first year than many presidents do in their entire term.

Carter was a good man with great intentions. He just couldn't get it done as president.

25. They are both good guys who try to get the populace to take some
responsibility, instead of sitting around waiting for a "leader" to get them to do something. The Decider and his ilk were only too willing to claim they were big Daddies. Carter and Obama treat us like adults. The problem is so many of us aren't, in spite of our years.
