"Obama to meet with Dodd and Frank on financial bill"By Jordan Fabian - 05/21/10 09:41 AM ET
President Barack Obama on Friday will meet with the two lawmakers who shepherded financial reform legislation through Congress.
Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) will huddle with the president a day after the Senate passed its version of the Wall Street reform bill.
The House passed its legislation last year.
The meeting marks the beginning of the conference process between House and Senate lawmakers that will likely result in a combination of the two bills.
Leaders have set July 4 as the signing deadline for the legislation that Obama has called one of his top priorities.
Frank said that staff from his committee, Dodd's and the White House have already begun to meet to discuss the conferencing process.
Sen. Ted Kaufman (D-Del.) said Friday that he thinks the final product cannot differ too much from the upper chamber's legislation -- which is considered tougher than the House's.
