My experience with a birther...
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 03:38 PM by Drunken Irishman
I was at the car wash the other day. You know, those ones where you go wait inside while they clean out the car.

Well the television was set to the news and they were reporting on the Arizona story about requiring presidential candidates to prove they're American born in order to get on the ballot there. Anyway, I groaned loudly when this came on. A man, had to have been in his late 60s, early 70s, looked at me and muttered something under his breath. I couldn't hear him, but I knew it wasn't anything nice about Obama.

Against my better judgement, I asked him to speak up and he loudly said that Obama needs to prove he's an American. That ticked me off. And because I'm an angry fella regardless, I asked if he was American. Of course, he replied with a very emphatic yes. Then I asked him to prove it. He shook his head, like he didn't understand what I was saying. I told him to prove to me he was an American.

That's when he yelled out, "I'M WHITE, AIN'T I?"

Then he went off on a tangent about fighting in Korea and then, thankfully, I was saved from his craziness when my car was ready.

So that pretty much confirmed what I've always believed. If Pres. Obama's father had been from England, this wouldn't be an issue.

Because, you know, being white is proof enough you're American.

6. You got that one to show his true colors!
And you can bet he believes McCain was American, even without seeing one of McCain's parents' birth certificates, which would be documentation to prove McCain was a citizen.

7. "I'M WHITE, AIN'T I?" How quintessentially republican.
I wonder what he would have done if you had asked him to prove that he was white.

8. I've always said that even if Obama's dad was a British student named Barry Winthorpe. This wouldn't
an issue with anyone.

12. Well, I'm white, and I'm an immigrant
Naturalized citizen, not allowed to be president. Unlike Obama.

But those people don't have to make any sense, do they?

13. He was 60+ and white, like almost all other teabaggers!
That's not a good demographic for a party that plans to be around for more than a few years.

if he could not produce it, on the spot, (a "certified" copy) I'd tell him to get out of my country...

Damn Socialist anyway, tugging off the gummint by taking that Social Security and Medicare...he ought to pull himself up by his bootstraps, pay out of pocket for all medical care...and return those damn Socialist checks!

15. Of course no white people ever came over from other countries! Oh, is that the way America was made?
Oopsie. My Grandfather was from an Italian immigrant family and faced major discrimination. White does not always equal non-immigrant.

20. The point is, we all made America and everyone was an immigrant at one time.
Except the Native Americans, of course. They had America for a long, long time and didn't destroy it in 200 years like the rest of us. The point is, there were white immigrants that were discriminated against when they first came over. I have Irish immigrants and Italian ones that were not treated the best. How quickly people forget.

17. Actually, they would make an issue of it if his dad was from England
Obama is a Democrat. The repugs are trying to delegitimize his presidency any way they can. They would do the same if it were "President Kucinch", "President Richardson", "President HR Clinton", "President Biden", etc. They would find some other thing to pick at, just like they did with Bill Clinton's win with 49% of the vote in 1992. And, with his personal life. If Mr. Obama, Sr. was a British subject, and his son was white, they'd still pull the birther shit on him.
