...there was at least one moment Saturday afternoon when the value of the president’s well-being was brought into question by Hughes and was subsequently met with light laughter from the crowd.

“Now, do I love this nation? Oh, yes I do. I believe in American exceptionalism, but I also believe we have forgotten what made us exceptional,” Hughes said. “It was not a demigod president living in some modern-day Greek temple with hundreds of aides and surrounded by a small army, because heaven knows if something happened to the president, the entire society would crumble. What would we do with ourselves?”

One response shouted out by a woman in the crowd was, “Sing hallelujah!”

Going back to that incident in 2008. I am now convinced that that incident back in 2008 was not just a misunderstanding, but rather, an actual threat.

Remember when anyone who made threats against Bush got major jail time! Why are those who threaten Obama let off the hook?

Rather than have her in jail and them going underground to incite more threats and violence using her arrest as an example of "tyranny". People are more likely to take action against a perceived actual threat than an uncomfortable inconvenience that leaves them alone.
Those who went to jail for threatening the Shrub were usually individual yobs who had no association with any fringe groups anyway. Those that didn't go to jail probably had associations and were most likely watched to track the level of actual threat.
