Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson (R) raised over $733,000 for his Senate campaign from January to March and had $1.1 million in cash on hand as of April 1, his campaign announced Thursday.
Grayson's three-month fundraising total bested that of his primary opponent, eye surgeon Rand Paul (R) -- the son of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) -- by over $100,000. Paul raised just under $630,000 in the first quarter. Both campaigns have now raised about $2.42 since the primary began.
"Thousands of Kentuckians have generously endorsed my candidacy with their time, talents, and financial contributions," Grayson said in a statement Thursday. "We're running a well planned and methodical campaign designed to peak on Election Day."
Paul's campaign manager shrugged off the fact that Grayson won the fundraising battle for the first time in three quarters.
