Fired RNC staffer was "Young Eagles" director
Fired RNC staffer was "Young Eagles" director
Posted: March 30th, 2010 10:39 AM ET

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby

Washington (CNN) - The Republican National Committee staffer fired Monday for getting the committee to finance for an outing at a risqué Hollywood nightclub was Young Eagles director Allison Meyers, CNN has learned from multiple GOP sources.

Meyers attended Voyeur, the Los Angeles nightclub at the center of the latest RNC controversy, with a group of young donors in February and was able to get the committee to re-imburse the donor who picked up the tab. As director of the Young Eagles program since early 2009, Meyers was tasked with cultivating younger Republican donors in their 30s and 40s.

She was dismissed from her position on Monday after news of the outing became the latest in a series of headaches for the RNC and its chairman, Michael Steele.

Meyers did not respond to an e-mail or phone call seeking comment.

RNC Chief of Staff Ken McKay e-mailed committee members on Monday announcing the firing but did not name Meyers.

"That person was aware that this activity was not eligible for reimbursement and had been previously counseled on this very subject," McKay wrote. "Accordingly, that staff person has been terminated."

and the sacrificial lamb is led to slaughter.

I"m sure the entire outing was her idea, and not her superior's.

2. Those "Young Eagles" sure exemplify Republicans' idea of family values, don't they?
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 10:34 AM by ClarkUSA
Republicans must have a very old donor base to call people in their 30s and 40s "young".

How many "Young Eagles" are in trouble with their spouses now?

6. Please don't confuse the GOP's Young Eagles with EAA's Young Eagles. The latter group is

sponsored by EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) with such prominent program chairmen as Sully Sullenberger, Chuck Yeager, Harrison Ford, and Cliff Robertson.
The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.

Since 1992, more than 1.5 million Young Eagles have enjoyed a flight through the program. Young Eagles have been registered in more than 90 different countries and have been flown by more than 42,000 volunteer pilots.

Participation is easy. Click Here to find the closest volunteer pilot. From there, arrange a convenient time to go flying. We hope you enjoy a Young Eagles introduction to the exciting world of aviation. Make sure you come back to visit this web site after your flight to continue exploring the wonderful world of aviation!

7. But why reiumburse the donor in the first place?
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 10:28 AM by rocktivity
The donor's money went to the club, not the RNC. And with $2000 worth of "meals," exactly how many Young Eagles did she take with her?

19. MY QUESTION HAS BEEN ANSWERED!
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 02:03 PM by rocktivity
The donor picked up the tab because the RNC's credit card was rejected after he was PROMISED reimbursement--The RNC was going to pay for the evening all along! THEN they have to nerve to fire the staffer implying that she deceived the accountants somehow? The RNC approved the reimbursement! THAT'S why the payment went through, and that's why they made the staffer their scapegoat!

20. Yep, I noticed that as well...
Apparently, for whatever reason, the CC for the RNC didn't make through, one had to wonder what they were spending money on to make the CC reject...hmmm

In any case, using a "corporate" CC is something that reflects not only on the individual, but on the "corporation, (in this case the RNC), for "personal", (or was it business" in that club) as well...

How much did the RNC use up on that junket to Hawaii?, maybe they broke the bank going out there to talk about "fiscal responsibility", "morality" and "family values"...

28. ANOTHER QUESITON ANSWERED!
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 03:55 PM by rocktivity
The trip to Voyeur took place after (a January 31) official RNC Young Eagles dinner at the Beverly Hills Hotel attended by about 50 donors...Meyers (reportedly) organized both...event(s). About a dozen young Republicans, including Meyers, attended the Voyeur gathering, GOP officials said.

One of those in attendance was Erik Brown, a GOP consultant...GOP officials said Meyers tried to put the $1,946.25 tab on a credit card but was rejected; Meyers then asked Brown to cover the bill with promises that the RNC would reimburse him, these officials said. Brown has not responded to e-mails and telephone messages seeking his side of the story.

The RNC cut a check to Brown on Feb. 4, which was dutifully reported on a Federal Election Commission expense form...

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/03/reports-say-young-eagles-direc.html

So after consuming a dinner, twelve donors were still so hungry they went on to consume a "meal" averaging nearly $150 EACH? Talk about haute cusine! If anyone owes the RNC reimbursement, it's the Beverly Hills Hotel!

P.S. "A" credit card--the same one she paid for the dinner with, perhaps? How about "a" RNC "company" credit card that got overdrawn after paying for the dinner? Who do they think they're kidding?
