Rep. Broun Deserves an Official Rebuke

Video at link~

Rep. Paul Broun, whose district includes the University of Georgia, went to the floor of the House of Representatives and said:

"If ObamaCare passes, that free insurance card that’s in people’s pockets is gonna be as worthless as a Confederate dollar after the War Between The States — the Great War of Yankee Aggression."

Does any part of that comment make sense? Over at Think Progress, Lee Fang notes a pattern, with Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina comparing the effort to pass health reform to Japan's kamikaze pilots and Glenn Beck repeatedly referring to the effort as 'reparations' for slavery. Frankly, I can't decipher Rep. Broun's meaning. It's just psycho talk. But, in this day and age, to refer to the Civil War as ' the Great War of Yankee Aggression' is simply racist. I'm sorry, but it is. Georgia seceded from the Union because Abraham Lincoln was elected president and didn't want to extend slavery into new territories. The only Yankee aggression was in the service of keeping the country together and in taking a stand against the immoral practice of human bondage. It is long past time to recognize that the North was on the right side of history. A failure to do so on the floor of the House deserves an official rebuke.

2. He does deserve at least an official rebuke.
I would rather see him impeached.

What a racist POS.

3. The last refuge for the bastards...
If all else fails, and it has, bring their inherent racism to the fore. It is despicable but, sadly, not at all surprising.

5. "Free" insurance card? I've never had a free insurance card. Every insurance card I had came with
a monthly premium paid for either by my parents or me.

Oh, that's right, Congress people get "free" insurance, paid for by us... the taxpayers.

10. Totally agree. I just heard this racist claptrap on TV and signed on to post and you
beat me to it.

This type of cowardly,mean-spirited public speech by public servants that, essentially, incites one segment of society to discriminate against and do violence to another MUST NOT BE CONDONED BY SILENCE or apathy.

In addition to the immorality of this matter-of-fact racism, it will certainly result in violence. This ass was in the same category as Fred Phelps when he spewed this bile into the House today, and everyone who agrees should let the wannabe Klansman hear about it.

[email protected] is his "official campaign site". Why not send him some "support"?

I did!

11. "The War of Northern Aggression" is an old appellation
Don't take it too seriously. I have heard it for year having lived in Georgia. It is somewhat tongue in cheek and is akin in some respect to something siad between sports rivals. I lived in the South for twenty years and most I have known to use the phrase uses it as a humorouc correct to those who use the term "Civil War". He did not mean it like the "South was right but oppressed by Yankees".

having said that... this guy is a buffoon and a blowhard.
