I don't understand how those who oppose abortion can be against Health Care Reform. Tom Coburn thinks HCR would result in babies with Spina Bifida being aborted.

If a pregnant woman knows her unborn child has a disability wouldn't she be less likely to have an abortion if she knew this would not result in financial hardship.

Why can't Nancy Pelosi and others make this argument to the American People?

1. Because the anti-choice crowd is not interested in what happens to the child after it is born

and they sure don't want to have to contribute to its care in anyway at all.

Their real issue is controling women, not concern for children.

7. You nailed it. The anti-choicers don't care about children that they deem burdens.
They just care that women "know their place".

4. First of all
I agree with post 2, it's a privacy issue not to be legislated.

Second, this bill is not made of unicorns farts and rainbows. It MAY make it LESS of a hardship financially, but it will not be an end all be all hardship eliminator. Just because someone can get a health insurance plan doesn't mean it will be a good plan, or a fairly priced plan.

5. Because they're against birth control, too.
Effective HCR would decrease abortions by providing sex education by health care providers and access to birth control for women.

The anti-choice crowd is strongly against this because it would give women control of their own bodies and lives, which could diminish the power of the religious patriarchy.

6. Doesn't matter. They want to BAN abortions, not reduce them. nt
