OMG!!!! How excited should I get? I am freaking out: Senator Nelson of Florida said YES!
Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) became the 41st senator to say that he would back the public insurance option as part of a health care bill moved through reconciliation.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/10/public-option-support-now_n_493725.html

He is my Senator and I had no hope at all, I have called and called his office before, never got a real direct answer.

Just called about this on the HP, told the guy to let the Senator know that he has my full support and he makes me very proud!

Blood pressure is up, please tell me I am not going to be disappointed!!!

:bounce:

5. And of those 9, I can see 5, maybe 6 who might do it.
Sen. Robert Byrd (if he's healthy enough to show up for the vote)
Sen. Tom Harkin
Sen. Herb Kohl
Sen. Claire McCaskill
Sen. John Rockefeller
Sen. Jim Webb

The others mentioned are too invested in the corporatist sellout to allow any public alternative.

12. And let's keep the calls and emails going until it's a done deal, folks.
Our calls must still outnumber the Republicans' calls to his office. So if you live in Florida, don't stop now.

I'll email and phone my in-laws in Florida telling them to keep it up from now until it's over just so Bill doesn't change his mind.

18. Not excited at all. Nelson signed on because he KNOWs it will never pass the Senate.
If anything, it's a sign that the present Senate Bill is A SHIT SANDWICH and the House Democrats should NOT PASS IT if they want to retain power in Congress.

Shit sandwich is right. And Nelson is not going to quit being a piece of shit.

If he supports it, it's worse than I thought.

24. Read the link. 'Leadership will urge all Dems to vote no, so as not to complicate reconciliation.'
Regardless of the support for a particular amendment, Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said Wednesday that leadership will urge all Democrats to vote no, so as not to complicate the reconciliation process.

If that is the case, the House still has the ability to put the public option in its version before it's sent to the Senate, but there is no indication that that is being contemplated, despite its broad support both inside Congress and with the public.

34. His state, FL, is hurting for health care... The state has way too many jobs that
don't offer health care. AND with the recession on, the state budget is getting killed with medicaid payments.

That ratfuck bastard wasn't at all interested in the PO when it might have had a chance in hell. His interest now can only signal that there's no way it'll actually pass. Typical of what the party does I'm afraid.
