Exasperated Right Rejects Birther Speech at Tea Party Convention

Joseph Farah, editor of right-wing-hinterland-hub World Net Daily, delivered a barnstorming Friday night address at the Tea Party convention. He urged Americans to demand Obama's birth certificate, and said that proof of Jesus's birth is more ironclad than the president's:

1. This is a good wake up call for those of us who didn't know
how co-opted by the right the media are.

2. Maybe it's not such a bad idea
to televise this nonsense as it really shines the light on how crazy these people are.

I go back and forth on this. Sometimes I wish the media would just ignore them, but maybe it's better to have more of their bullshit out there for all to see.

17. The problem is that the more people hear it, the more they believe it.

19. Letting this fester distracts from valid questons
During the primaries, there were a number of issues raised about Obama that seemed serious enough that they deserved scrutiny by all of us as part of the vetting process. Otherwise, they would likely cause big problems if the Repubs pushed them into the MSM late in the general election. (Somewhat like the IL lt Gov. primary.)

I understand that we have Obama's birth certificate (official copy). As I understand, there is an "original" somewhere, maybe an image of it, which is more or less what the birthers are all in a tither about. I suspect that Obama and his family have various items and know specifics which would quickly eliminate this as an issue if made public. By leaving things as they are, the birthers seem so crazy that they tarnish much of the RW issues. Almost any story was dismissed if it could be associated with the RW crazies. For example, an investigative piece somewhere like the LA Times that was picked up by Newsmax but ignored by AP would disappear as quickly and completely as if it had been about Sibel Edmonds.

Why few of these issues became main-stream during the GE is an even more interesting story and raises some intriquing questions.

21. If the word of the republican
governor of Hawaii isn't good enough, then nothing will be. Even if Obama posted a a scan of the original document, whatever that might have looked like, it wouldn't be enough.

I see no reason why he should play their games at all. I have a very conservative rw cousin who I manage to have relatively civil discussions with and he pretty much agrees that these people who keep pushing this really end up looking foolish and if he were in the same position he wouldn't release anything else either.

The problem with these conspiracies is that the facts never change the minds of the true believers. So why bother to try.

4. Nice try but no cigar.
Farah's 'barnstorming' was met with thunderous applause by the 600 or so teabaggers who were in attendance. You can't unring a bell. These jackasses are just making themselves look even more pathetic, trying to pretend the're not idiots.

They bought the birther lunacy, now they can wear it.

7. The birther thing
is just the opposite of the "selected not elected" crap we were spewing for years...

Most Americans just want to get past these phony controversies and get their lives either back to normal (in bad times) or a little bit better (in good times). They just don't care about re-fighting the last battle.

12. The vast majority of the country
while in shock and amazement over the whole 2000 Florida election circus, was pretty much over it by Inauguration Day.

There's always a need to figure out how your political opponent got elected, you either blame the process, or the people who went into the voting booth. That is, of course, unless you simply acknowledge that you got your ass beat, and resolve to try harder the next time.

26. And the folks who spouted
"selected not elected" are prominent in our party. It's just two sides of the same coin, and that is to de-legitimize a leader in the eyes of the people who are inclined to disagree with his policies.

16. That video clip contains a careful lecture to the tea party on how to position themselves.
Or, how Faux News viewers should perceive them.

The key hypnotic lead-in phrase is "some people say", with that special inflection that Faux uses to indicate "this is what you should think."

11. Not many people know that Hawaii was part of Zaire in 1961.
Not Kenya, as many people think. The US swapped it for the Panama Canal after Zaire acquired the colony from Imperial Japan shortly before the end of WW II, finally giving up on the territory after their conquest of 1941.

14. They're reporting it because they'd report a train accident or a 20-car pileup
in much the same way.

It's news because it's happening, and as long as no one (except Fox, of course...I expect it from them) is saying "You know what, they're right", I don't see the problem.

15. Reporting real news would require hiring actual reporters and factcheckers--not good for bottom line
so get used to the fairy tales and fluff you'll get repeated in 40 minute cycles 24/7.

20. The media treat this as if it's some sort of grass roots movement that's catching on . . .
Without noting the huge leg-up that it's getting from the over-the-top media coverage.

Just about any "movement" would be a watcher if it gets 24-7 coverage in the national press.
