SC Lt. Gov. compares government assistance to "feeding stray animals."
And this idiot is running for Governor!

"My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that. And so what you've got to do is you've got to curtail that type of behavior. They don't know any better," Bauer said.

3. Compassionate Conservatism strikes again
Edited on Sat Jan-23-10 08:56 AM by Ian David

Here's some "compassionate conservatism" fer ya!
An aide to Bush campaign spokesman Terry Holt said, in response to an item that suggested American workers were not satisfied with their low-paying jobs said: "Why don't they get new jobs if they're unhappy...or go on Prozac."

A Shining Example of "Compassionate Conservatism"
We need to start with the female prisoners they asked us to release. Haul them out on TV and wax them. Then we pull out of Fallujah and Sadr City and let a few dozen missles erase the place. Send in the Marines to kill the survivors, bull doze it flat and build economy housing for the Iraqi's that WANT to see this end and get on with their lives under a free Iraq."

after accidental shooting, etc. All of the other headlines were very bad.......something's wrong with South Carolina, me thinks.

7. Come On Bauer, Let's Take the Next Step
If you're so worried about poor people and think they are like stray animals, do you advocate taking the next step too? You know how most areas deal with stray animals, right? They round 'em up and euthanize the creatures. More enlightened areas round pick them up spay/neuter and then release. But I guess that wouldn't be Pro-Life, now would it? Instead we should just let them starve to death or die of illness.

With all due respect, you're sounding like an idiot, Bauer. Many of the people on assistance do work - doing low paying jobs like housekeeping or in agriculture. They contribute to society by keeping the costs of the hotel rooms in Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island lower to bring tourists to your state and by keeping the cost of produce lower for everyone. We owe it to them. Those kids getting free lunch today will become contributing citizens in ten years, but they need help now. Maybe the reason their test scores are lower despite that free lunch is because it is their only meal of the day. Maybe the reason parents on aid are missing school conferences is because they work and their boss won't give them the time off (or won't give it to them with pay). You want people on assistance to pay back, well help them out of the hole first and maybe they will. As for drug tests - aside from any of the typical liberal concerns (privacy, prejudice, etc) do you really think a parent who is such a "loser" as to do drugs in the first place really has her child's best interests in mind? So you want the child to starve because the parent is a fool?

8. Yeah, Republicans...
.. are bigoted scumbags. So, what else is new? Right about now, I'm more concerned with my stealth enemies than those that are blatant about being so. But that's just me.

9. He'll Probably Win
I mean, remember, this is South Carolina. The state's good, sensible voters are greatly outnumbered by bigoted, intolerant fools. They elected DeMint after he said single mothers and openly gay people shouldn't be teachers because they didn't have high enough moral standards.

12. We have a couple of good candidates running in the primary
and we're mad as hell. Hopefully this will motivate SC Dems to get out there and win in November.

13. I Hope So
As a Floridian I know how hard it is to be from a red state that the rest of the country ridicules. I try to be empathetic and not judge the whole state because I know there are good progressives there.

14. Thanks!
We made some progress in 2008, but it's really, really hard to be a Democrat here in SC. Sometimes I feel like giving up.

Y'all kicked ass in Florida in '08!

10. Humans will breed regardless of whether or not they can provide for their offspring.
The only question is, will we let them and their children starve or not once they join the world of living, breathing humans?

People are not stray cats.

15. And that's not the only outrageworthy part of the article
The dumbass goes on to say that assisted or free lunches at schools lower test scores, and that students should be drug-tested before they have access to them.

Motherfucker Of The Week Award in any case. Ugh.
