1. I would like to see the methodology of these "polls."
Approval of President Obama is not equivalent to either "respecting his high intelligence" nor "wanting to have a beer with him."

2. Approval is not personal favorability, where he is at almost 90%.
I couldn't find the raw numbers for this poll but I suspect the approval question is like the ones found here - http://www.pollingreport.com/obama_job.htm

5. And folks are finally starting to figure this out....
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 08:12 AM by Clio the Leo
... I realize we have major problems to fix but I've been saying for months (because I've been reading the polls) that while his POLICIES are often controversial, his personal favorability numbers remain untouched.

Joey Scar FINALLY had a light bulb moment this morning. "I've been making the wrong analogy. This is not like Clinton in '94, this is like Reagan in '82."

The President has some work to do (and he's already doing it) .... but a year later, the GOP is STILL screwed.

8. Obama 2010 Approval Looks Like Reagan's in 1982...per Gallup on Jan 6th
Surmises Gallup: "Still, Obama's initial approval rating in his second year as president is among the lowest for elected presidents since Dwight Eisenhower. Only Ronald Reagan -- who, like Obama, took office during challenging economic times -- began his second year in office with a lower approval score (49%). However, Obama's disapproval rating is slightly higher than Reagan's was (44% vs. 40%)."

How bad would Ronald Reagan-like electoral results be for Barack Obama and the Democratic Party? In the 1982 midterm elections, which landed at the same point in the Reagan presidency as the 2010 midterms will land in Barack Obama's, Republicans lost 26 seats in the House but had no net loss in the Senate -- a bad, but not terrible showing. Should 2010 be for the President Obama and the Democrats anything like 1982 was for President Reagan and the Republicans, the Democrats would hold on to both the House and Senate with still fairly robust majorities (though narrower than they had before).

It will be interesting to see if this is like 1994 or 1982. My sense is more like 1982.

10. GOOD post ...
some numbers and facts to back up what my gut has been telling me for months ...

The right, and therefor the MSM will pimp 94 at its most shrill level, but in the end, the "losses" will be in right leaning districts that the Ds managed to pick up the last two cycles, and will be at most 20 or so house seats, and maybe a couple more senate seats, though all things being equal the cycle is tougher for the Rs than the Ds ...

Also, as some have posted, the Rs are not real good with money right now, always their trump card the last decade or so AND as much as Tim Kaine is a non-entity for the DNC, friggen Michael Steele is a NEGATIVE for the RNC ...

4. You wouldn't approve of anybody
Chairman Mao could get elected and you'd find out he was a corporate tool or something

Stay home and stomp your feet and cry. Those big bad corporations are not going to go away.
