They will be using the Curt Schilling comment all day to bludgeon Coakley with
The lesson here is that if you don't follow sports, don't make gratuitous off the cuff sports comments that make you look clueless and out-of-touch.

Not knowing who Curt Schilling is like someone in Denver not knowing who John Elway is and saying that he is a Raiders fan. It is a pretty major gaffe. In Massachusetts, and Boston in particular, most people osmose sports through the atmosphere. It's just all around you and it's all about the Red Sox and the Patriots. People will be standing around water coolers all day telling each other that Martha Coakley doesn't know who Curt Schilling is.

I think this resonates more than people here may realize.

1. Schilling is a schill.
if you live in Mass. (I do) you know it. We've lived under Mitt-the-shit and Du-ka-ka. There is a difference.

2. I know Schilling is a shill for Brown. I'm saying that the fact she doesn't know who he is
is a big big gaffe.

18. It's exactly what we were saying about Caribou Barbie
some fifteen months ago. Too stupid to get ordinary facts straight, not qualified for office.

If you don't care about facts, and only want to vote your heart, then you have a teabagger mentality.

10. That was my first thought, too.
If they vote against her because she spends her time worrying about things other than sports, they deserve someone like Brown. None of this should come as a surprise, however, given how many, mostly the rethugs and their toadies in the MSM, treat politics like they're some kind of damn sporting event.

13. I know from living with a Red Sox fan (we are from CT) that they take it really seriously
but politics should be taken MORE seriously. Only in America do we worry about this kind of crap.

7. It is a big gaffe. To me it just shows how much about your
constituents one doesn't know. Schilling's bloody sock and all that is legendary in Red Sox Nation. It is like someone running in Pennsylvania saying Terry Bradshaw is a Ravens fan or Mike Schmidt loves the Mets (and Red Sox/Yanks outdoes those rivalries by a longshot). Did she say this as though Schilling was a Yankee or was it done in jest?

I am praying for Coakley to pull this out.

Putting a reactionary yahoo like Brown who isn't going to do jackshit for the average resident in Teddy's seat in part because her opponent fumbles a baseball reference. :dunce:

"Manny Ortez" and he still won in MA. If Coakley loses, it won't be because of this. It will be because she ran a shitty campaign.

16. Kerry's was a slip of the tongue and Kerry was well known to MA
I doubt many would vote on this. I can't understand how she didn't know unless she confused him with another player traded to the Yankees. If nothing else, he was rumoured to run for this seat both this time and against John Kerry.

He's a freaking hero in Mass.

The Red Sox. The Curse. The bloody sock.

I know it seems stupid, but I am from there, and I don't care about sports much either.... but...I sure know who he is.....

Oh dear.

And, you know why. It's a great line that would help Coakley. Let's hope the Dems are running clips of it all day in Mass!

I think you want Coakley to lose more than you realize if this is all you can come up with.

25. "He is unworthy of being known"
Uh, OK. Tell that to New England. Give them and the rest of us a list of people who "deserve to be known" according to you.

I didn't "come up" with anything. I didn't make up Coakley's comment. I'm sorry she made the comment and I'm sorry it will most likely hurt her with some low information voters.

It amazes me how some people think if something isn't discussed here, it never happened. It's like that stage in child development where if the doll is under the bed, the doll doesn't exist. You are supposed to outgrow that stage at around age three.

He is some over paid sports figure with an ego the size of the state.
Seems to me you didn't need to post this.
And, it seems you are really wishing she would lose.
Why would a Democrat get a kick out of a Repub putting down a Democrat? You should be fighting back on her behalf.
