Wilson Ramos kidnapped in Venezuela
WASHINGTON - Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos has been kidnapped in his home country of Venezuela, police and colleagues say.

Reports say that Ramos was kidnapped at gunpoint from his home around 6:45 p.m. Venezuelan time (6:15 p.m. EST) in Maracay. The Nationals' catcher has been playing for the Aragua Tigers, a team in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

The Tigers confirmed the kidnapping via the team's Twitter feed Wednesday.

"This is sad, worrisome and true that Wilson Ramos has been kidnapped," writes Katherine Vilera, a spokeswoman for the team.

2. "They" being the Venezuelan national guard, in an operation personally authorized by...
...President Hugo Chavez.

According to news reports I've read, it was a flawless operation involving good use of intelligence and quick action in a dangerous situation (the kidnappers open-fired on the national guard rescuers who had been dropped by helicopter at the remote location where Ramos was being held). Even Rotters grudgingly admits that this was "a major success for the government of President Hugo Chavez."

Interesting how you didn't follow up on this, and just let it sit here in the LatAm Forum as a yet another slam at the Chavez government--although it's all over the news that the Venezuelan national guard, that the Chavez government has been responsible for, for the last decade, did a remarkable rescue operation, PERSONALLY authorized by President Chavez himself.

It also looks like COLOMBIAN rightwing paramilitaries may have been the perps. Colombian rightwing paramilitaries have been trying to infiltrate Venezuela for some time now, to bring the murder and mayhem that they have inflicted on Colombia into neighboring Venezuela. The biggest rightwing gang of thugs and murderers--the Black Eagles--were discovered in border areas of Venezuela, trying to set up a crime network. Once again, good Venezuelan police work--giving the lie to the Bushwhack crime boss 'president' of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe, who claimed that leftist FARC guerrillas were mustering in that area of Venezuela. Not so! But the "Black Eagles" were there! Typical Bushwhacky sort of lie, proving my rule of thumb for Bushwhacks: whatever they allege that others are doing, they are doing or planning to do.

So sorry that the Corporate News got cheated out of this opportunity--possibly given to them by rightwing death squads from the Corporate Rulers' favorite country in LatAm--the one soaking in the blood of trade unionists and other advocates of the poor murdered by said RIGHTWING death squads--to slam this leftist government once again.

Not.

3. Interesting how you make up a huge load of horseshit about my motives
based on a SINGLE SENTENCE, in response to the OP, where I typed--as it came across my television crawl-- he was found and safe.

You really are a piece of work. What a crazed conspiracy-laden thesis of paranoid accusations you created from that one fucking comment!

Please, point out my "slam" in that brief sentence.

It's not my job to be the cub reporter here--you want to expound, you're more than welcome. Go for it. No one is stopping you.

Further, I'm not the OP here. I have no responsibility for this thread.

Get some help--you really do need it, if your custom is to light into people for not providing enough data that includes material that you deem important.

Your diatribe is by far the most bizarre post I've seen on DU in a long time. You're way out of line.

4. Sorry, my remarks were entirely intended for the OP writer, naaman fletcher.
I'm very glad that you posted the news that Ramos had been rescued and I did not at all expect follow-up from you. I forgot that I'd clicked on your comment, not on the OP. Naaman fletcher should have followed up, not you. Naaman fletcher is always posting negative stuff about Venezuela, and it irritated me no end that this very competent operation of the Chavez government was going unrecognized in the LatAm Forum. You corrected the OP! Thank you!

Again, apologies for my mistake.
