Ambassador Hodges leaves the land of incredible birds (Ecuador)

Hit the road, Heather.

Heather "persona non grata" Hodges flew to Miami this morning from Quito on a commercial AA flight.

In brief remarks at the Quito VIP lounge, she said Ecuador was "a marvelous country." A country of "incredible beauty, incredible birds." She became a birdwatcher since her arrival 32 months ago, and recorded more than 300 species, according to Ecuador media.

Hodges declined to talk about why she had been declared persona non grata nine days ago. (It was not for watching birds.)

But there was a remark that could be taken as anti-Correa.

She said Ecuador has a people who want to better their future. "I hope the nation can have a better future. I think it's possible with the people this country has."

2. Who? Me, unrec'ed?

Feel a swoon coming on.

More than Heather's birds, it was birdbrains.

I look at unrec's as a little badge of honor, knowing that one (or two or three) of the local members of the Crayola Boys' Club has been made uncomfortable.

-------------------

Hil and company today suspended the Bilateral Dialogue the two countries have been having since 2008. The suspension is indefinite, a hil flack said today in Washington. The dialogue is held periodically to discuss issues of interest to both Ecuador and the United States. Next meeting was scheduled for June.

As if Ecuador gives a fat birdy's ass.
