The Colombian Supreme Court failed to elect a national prosecutor general for the 23rd time this year, and this time the judges did not even take a vote.

After so many failed attempts, the Court is considering revising the regulations in order to allow the appointment to take place.

A candidate must obtain 16 votes in order to win.

The court will have to fill five vacant seats by September 30, and this process is expected to overshadow the attempt to decide on a prosecutor general.

President Juan Manuel Santos ruled out filing a new slate of candidates, therefore the court must choose that left by former president Alvaro Uribe.
