CARICOM urges US to lift Cuba blockade

Barbados: The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) asked US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to put an end to the economic, financial, and commercial blockade her country has imposed on Cuba for nearly 50 years.

After a meeting in Barbados, the CARICOM President, and Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, told the press he once again informted the visiting US Secretary of State the bloc's rejection of the US blockade against Cuba, which has been condemned by the UN General Assembly for the last 18 years.

The official also praised his country's relations with Venezuela, which became stronger after the island entered the Petrocaribe energy project, and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, a regional cooperation mechanism.

In the meantime, the declaration of the Barbadian meeting reads that Clinton has promised to cooperate with the environmental preservation of the Caribbean Sea, and provide information on the possible presence of oil leaked in the Gulf of Mexico. Bridgetown, Prensa Latina
