Halloween - a totally non-political post
I just got my new Crate & Barrel catalog & they have some really cool Halloween stuff. You guys, I'm not sure I have any room in my house for more Halloween decorations! And I haven't even visited Illuminations to see what they have this year. ~sigh

Halloween is my very favorite holiday. I love it! I've loved it my entire life! My mother used to make me the most fantastic costumes. I have won more Halloween costume contests than anyone I know - most during my childhood, but still! I have a small trunk loaded with some ultra cool costumes. Recently, my most popular costume has been my Sam I Am costume, complete with the most fantastic paper maché Green Eggs & Ham.

My dear, wonderful husband just shakes his head.

Oh, & in case you were wondering what I do for Christmas - zilch, nada, zero. Not one Christmas deco or light in my house.

1. Why don't you throw a Halloween party - and not let anybody in the door
who "is" McCain or Palin?

2. Gately, if my house were bigger & if I had any friends,
I would throw a Halloween party every year!

But my place is very small & I have only a couple of friends - who usually have more fun things to do on Halloween night. ;)

I don't look as much like Palin as Tina Fey does, but I do sweep my hair up in a French roll & wear snazzy glasses. If I thought I could stomach it, that would be my costume this year, but I despise her so much I'm afraid I'd spew my Halloween drinks before even getting drunk!

3. The way you are for Halloween is the way I am for Christmas.
I go crazy decorating, and then cuss myself out every January when I have to take it all down :P

Halloween - not so much. Just enough for the trick-or-treaters.

4. Yeah, the taking it down part sucks.
It was mid-November before I finally got off my butt & packed it all away.

My mother had all her Christmas stuff down the day after Christmas. I used to beg her to keep it up. "It just isn't the same without the presents," she would say. I begged her to keep it up at least through New Years Eve. Never happened.

5. New Years Day is usually when I take it down.
Seriously - what else is there to do on Jan 1st when you have a headache? :)

6. I have some Halloween Decorations
that I put up on my hallway table for display. Just little things mostly that I've collected
over the years, a troll doll in a cat Halloween costume, some ceramic pumpkins. Target often has cute Halloween decorations and last year at Michaels, I got the cutest resin Halloween cat and pumpkin figurines. They were not expensive but look kind of artsy. So be sure to check out Michaels and AC Moore too.

8. Thank you!
I guess I should have introduced myself more formally here. I'm new to DU but a long-time Joe admirer and have been enjoying all the stories and videos you have all shared about Joe that I most likely have would have never seen anywhere else. You all are a nice, polite group and I admire the way you stick up for Joe over on the General boards. :)

10. I got the coolest water globe at Target.
It has a skull & little black bats. When you shake it the bats take flight. I'll be sure to check out Michaels. (Oh, my poor husband!)

:hi:

11. LOL! I got the same one!
Too funny. I haven't been there recently to see what they have this year. This week I should make it to Michaels. I'll let you know if I see those same type of figurines again.

9. I always loved fall, planting mums
making decorations for the front door, not Halloween per se, but more seasonal stuff. However, I always got the obligatory gourds and pumpkins, bales of hay, cornstalks. If I can search my archives later I will post a favorite photo of my old house in Virginia, looking particularly fall-ish. I miss that house

12. Autumn: weather change, Halloween, football, kids back in school. Love it!

I have been making my kids' costumes for several years now. Sometimes I buy a mask. This year they are going as a ghostbuster and Shrek. We love it! I also decorate outside the house, too.
