I've had more fun on that thing. Climbing around on skid trails at two miles an hour. I got rid of all of my dirtbikes. To noisy, to dangerous. I made up for when I wanted one as a kid. I've got about 4000 miles on logging roads just in the last six years.

38. I'm hardly skilled enough either.
I've had my days where I pulled off great welds. And days where I couldn't weld anything. There are a lot of variable, the big one being experience.

Yeah, I managed to grab some older machines and totally go through them. I've always been mechanically gifted. It's probably because I break everything. I then have to fix it.

All of that stuff is sitting in a building at the empty lumber mill in the town of Fortuna in N. California now. I also have a crane. I picked it all up and moved it until I can find a place to call home. So it's a real headache when moving. But I've got machine moving down to an art now.

But yeah, without the machines there's nothing I could have done at times. Special tools for when my tractor differential cracked, and I had to pull that thing apart. Yuck. That sucked. Although it's all interesting. The first time only. I hate doing stuff three times. And it's almost always the case.

Well. I'm done with this day. Sore from dragging logs down a hillside. And sawing them without a chainsaw. Ouch! Old school.

Actually this scooter was cheaper than the electric bikes we looked at and that was the deciding factor for us.

My son needed the power to climb big hills on campus. At 3am he's often at one end of the 2mi campus, his dorm at the other, and the buses aren't running. His forsen is fun to ride, trust me...and they're fold-able enough for a BIG car trunk. We have 2 electric scooters now.

and said - NEAT

His first bike was a Honda 90, mine was a Suzuki 90, both trail bikes - when he taught me to ride (I was 15) he was riding a Bultaco 125 Campera. Damn thing could hit 4th gear going left in a 2-lane intersection, but would also climb a competition-grade ski jump.... and steps going up to a huge gymnasium, AND up a hill with a 90 degree turn every 6th step!

LOVES my bikes!

My 110, I bought about 8 years ago. I'll never forget when the guy opened the garage. It was brand new. Not a single scratch. Of course I went and put 4000 miles on it exploring every bit of logging territory in northern California.

26. Way ahead of ya!
Dr. ATV is my first stop when looking for parts. I bought this from a yard sale for $250 about a year ago. It had sat since the late 1970s with only 1200 miles. Had to rebuild the carb and change the points, I built and installed a solid-state rectifier for the alternator from info on the Yahoo CT groups, I installed a dry battery in place of the old wet cell and had to remove a bunch of rust. Later I'll start a new thread and put in all of the links and sources I found for these.

Congrats on your 110 find!

One of the things I love about the trail bikes is that you have a free hand, since there's no clutch. I have toured the countryside with a cup of coffee.

That's amazing. A sidecar.

You know, I see these bikes and have to wonder why we need to commute in 4000 pound cars.

I don't even know what kind of mileage they get. But I know it's around a 100mpg.

Hubby and I have two - here's the 01 Roadstar, overloaded for a camping trip:

Here's a great forum for anyone who rides. Lots of folks from everywhere in the US: http://forums.delphiforums.com/MCTourer/start and one for anyone interested in riding Alaska: http://forums.delphiforums.com/ridealaska/start

(The hubby and I are MTF Touring Assistants for Interior Alaska)

We also have a 1979 Yamaha XS1100SF that really rocks; we're working on restoring it but it still runs like a bat outta hell.

Your KTM would've done fine on the Haul Road Run! 415 miles of rough gravel road - we wouldn't take the Roadie, so we took the motorhome with a 5-bike trailer and tire changer attached, just as a "backup" for the riders. One guy did it on a sport bike, another on a Harley, but I would NOT recommend it. Lots of KLR's and a couple of BMW's as well. Here's our mechanic, Tom, my husband, holding the Travellin' Kitty (yep, she went, too) just outside of Deadhorse:

Alaska has one of the highest per-capita number of riders in the nation. C'mon up and join us - everyone's welcome!

50. The only problem with riding up here is the massive
weather changes. I can leave Fairbanks at 80 degrees, go through Delta in the rain at 70 degrees, hit Glennallen and turn onto the Glenn Highway, and 90 minutes later be at 30 degrees in sleet or snow - in July.

It requires lots more gear in the form of layering!

Should have seen the load on my trip from Fairbanks to Merritt Island, Florida - a sight to behold. At the border, the Canadian customs gal asked if I had any "contraband". I told her if I had room for contraband, I'd have packed more panties........

My Sassafrass-A-Doodles likes the Roadie, too (BTW, ours is named Raven1):

48. Great lookin' ride, just don't take it on the Haul Road!
Except with certain good buddies following you with said trailer and motor home... Our Harley guy had the ride of his life until he hit some loose pea gravel left about 20 minutes before by a (yep) Alyeka crew. He was fine, but had to be medevaced to Fairbanks, where he wound up staying with us till he healed. His bike was totalled. I really believe, except for this literal fluke, he would have made it with no problems. One of the best riders I've ever known. Made it from Alabama to Key West to Fairbanks in under 7 days!!

It was an Iron Butt, so all you hard-core folks know what that means - and Martin made it with flair, no tickets, and enough sleep to attempt the Haul Road on top of it!

...at least as I remember, is that BMW still makes parts for them. At least they used to. You could get parts for old 1950s era beemers through any dealership, or better yet through a gray-market parts distributor. I worked for a combined gray market parts dealer/courier service in Washington long ago, and their fleet of vehicles dated way back. The bike you picture was a pretty common item in their livery--Earles forks, nutcracker solo seat, and all! :hi:

54. My first Motorcycle!
Hi everybody! :hi:
This is my first motorcycle, a 1973 Honda CL350. I have a feeling that this is going to be possibly the best spring/summer ever. :)

I love the exhaust pipes, they are so hot.

58. One of the many Honda 350 variants.
That model line was incredibly popular in those days--probably outnumbered every other bike on the street! The CL350 was the "street scrambler" model, which presumably meant that you could play with it off-road without graunching the pipes on a rock. I always wondered how well the heat shields worked. :hi:

62. I've been wondering alot about that lately
I'll let you know when I figure out if they do anything at all... Right now I am relying on my high boots, and hoping that no harm befalls my girlfriend whilst riding around on the back of my bike this summer in her skirts and whatnot.

67. Here's mine!

2005 Bajaj Chetak, gets 100mpg, cruises at 55-60 mph, 9.5 hp, 145cc four stroke motor with a four speed manual tranny. I love this little bike. I got it a couple of years ago when gas was going through the roof, something to mitigate the pain of a fifty two mile commute. Still love riding it even though my commute has been cut down to 34 miles. A solid, reliable little scooter, I've got over 8000 miles on it already, and ride it whenever it is dry and over twenty five degrees outside.

72. It is attached to the moped by Velcro
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 09:24 AM by happyslug
Thus if I hook it up to the Jeep, I do not have to worry about the Engine burning out, the brakes failing or even the transmission going...the velcro will give out first.

The rack was for the Jeep. I had received it at my office and attached the hitch to my moped for transport purposes only. Since that picture I have removed the hitch from the Moped and attached it to the front of the Jeep (The Hitch is for the front of a Jeep Wrangler to be used to push trailers around, to attach certain wenches OR other attachments to the front of the Wrangler, like a hitch to haul the Moped). If you look at the Wrangler you will see two hooks, the rack replaced those hooks. The Wrangler has four pre-drilled holes in its bumper for attachments. The hitch is thus attached by four bolts that bolt directly to the bumper. The hooks are gone and the Hitch is attached to the Jeep's bumper.

P.S. I used these picture just to see how long it would take someone to comment about the rack. As I can see not long.

I have NOT yet decided on what moped hauler to buy, so far I like the Versa-haul (Web site: http://www.versahaul.com/products.htm). I am looking at the larger Sport model (with ramp) in case I ever buy a bigger moped (I am looking at the Honda Helix), but Right no I can get away with the cheaper and smaller 50cc hauler. I still have no decided which one to get, but I like the idea of the Sort model in case i ever do buy a bigger bike.

73. Nice
Depending upon your hauling needs, I can't say enough good things about my having just gotten a basic utility trailer with a ramp. Versatility and all. I can load two bikes in mine and tie them down, with room for some camping gear. Or one bike and a lot more stuff ... or no bikes and help people move. ;)

The picture is not my bike. And I'm not the rider.
I try to keep both wheels on the ground, mostly. And I wouldn't put a red fluffy thing on the top of my helmet.
And, the pictured driver is thinner, younger than me.
Other than that, this looks like it.

92. You might like this video
warning do not click if swearing offends you (text only - not audible) or if you consider any humor involving certain famous 1930s-40's Germans to be in bad taste even if the humor has absolutely nothing to do with their political philosophy and does not associate any group or activity with them in any way.

But in the expectation that you have a reasonably robust sense of humor and an ability to laugh at ridiculous parody skewerings this is a blast...

Edited on Fri May-02-08 07:57 AM by ThomWV
500 miles the first weekend should be the goal. Rain or shine, 500 miles.

Just kidding.

Did they get it straightened out for you? Got plans to put that beauty on the road this weekend?

Remember, break it in gentle, make final adjustemnts to all the contols, change the oil, then ride it like you stole it.

Also, for your reading pleasure: http://www.cyclespot.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17

96. Hey there!
lol I'm breaking it in gently. Not quite ready for the highways yet, actually. Oh, and they did say not to drive it on the freeway for the first 500 miles. The weather should be beautiful in N. Texas this weekend, so riding is at the top of my list of things to do!! In fact, riding is the ONLY thing I plan to (except one lunch date I can't cancel tomorrow)!! :D

Thanks for the link! :hi:
