Venezuela moves against second opposition TV channel

By Brian Ellsworth
Mon May 28, 5:19 PM ET

CARACAS (Reuters) - Hours after President Hugo Chavez shut down
Venezuela's main opposition broadcaster, his government demanded
an investigation of news network Globovision on Monday for allegedly
inciting an assassination attempt on the leftist leader.

Seizing on the momentum of RCTV's closure, Communications Minister
Willian Lara presented a case to the state prosecutor's office saying
experts hired by the ministry had found that opposition broadcaster
Globovision was inciting assassination attempts on Chavez.

As evidence, he cited Globovision showing footage of an assassination
attempt against Pope John Paul II in 1981 accompanied by the song
"This Does Not Stop Here," sung by Ruben Blades, now Panama's
minister of tourism.

"The conclusion of the specialists ... is that (in this segment) they
are inciting the assassination of the president of Venezuela," Lara
told reporters at the prosecutor's office.

1. Is that another shoe dropping?
You know if this keeps up, we're going to have to airlift shoes to Venezuela.

4. Do you think it is healthy for any leader in any country to be unopposed?

Look what the media being in Bushes pocket did to America and the rest of the world, a lapse media is wrong.

Why is there no legitimate opposition to Chavez in your opinion?

7. In your opinion, there is no legitimate opposition to Chavez.
Everyone is funded by the CIA, so why is there no legitimate opposition in your opinion?

8. Instead of putting words in my mouth, silly ones at that, why not
go read, see for yourself, Kelly? I have no stake in twisting arms or even, in having the last word.

2. These stations sound like FOX on crack. They are dangerous if they present
themselves as fair and balanced and then incite hate, and possibly murder. I'm all for free speech but I don't think corporate controlled and operated media should be allowed to cause so much damage. Might it be the same as screaming fire in a theater if there is no fire? I'm just putting thoughts out there. I'm not sure of the entire circumstances.

We should do something about FOX here and the rest of the lapdogs as they are causing the death of our young men and women in wars that are sold to us by the corporate elete. When will we finally say we have had enough? When will we take America back? Even if it has been decades since we actually had it to begin with.

6. Inciting assassination
thats a serious charge. If true I think it is primarily a result of the radical pace of change in that country. Probably some problems like these are to be expected. It suggests that Venezuela has a long way to go before they could be considered a stable democracy.

12. Hooray! Another fiesta for the Chavez Brigade!
Soon Venezuela will be cleansed of the toxin of contrary opinion! Long live uniformity of praise for the glorious, all-seeing, all-wise, infallible leader!
