I have no doubt in my mind....
...that the "capitulation" of the Democratic party to fund the war through September is directly related to this:

U.S., Iran hold first formal talks in 27 years

The United States told Iran its support for militias fighting in Iraq needs to cease, said Ryan Crocker, U.S. ambassador to Iraq. Crocker spoke at a news conference today after a meeting with Iranian diplomats in Baghdad -- the first public and formal meeting between U.S. and Iranian representatives since the United States cut off diplomatic relations 27 years ago.

In my mind, Pelosi and Reid came to the White House and told Bush and Cheney that impeachment is always on the table unless they produce some real successes and drop the bullshit belicosity. Otherwise why would the dunderheaded duo begin to hold talks with a member of the "axis of evil?"

1. If they are threatening impeachment "behind the scenes". . .

. . .their arrogance is equal to that of GWB's delusional White House.

In our constitution, we surrendered NONE of our sovereignty to any institution or office we created. We are all subject to the collective authority of We the People (and that includes the elected and appointed government officials who serve with our consent). We created the institutions and offices through which we express our will. We charge officials with certain duties. We dictate the powers delegated and forbidden.

Our Congress is our voice. The power to impeach is the means by which we defend against intolerable acts that usurp OUR collective sovereign authority.

When the men and women we elect to represent us casually arrogate the awesome power of impeachment -- the power by which we assert our sovereignty -- onto themselves by declaring it "off the table" or by putting it back on in secret, they are committing precisely the kind of act that enabled the fascist takeover. They cut us out of the loop, just as GWB and his minions and co-conspirators do with their fascist fantasy of unitary authoritarian executive power.
