In the spirit of "what a trillion dollars looks like"...
...here is "what 60 'Yes' votes looks like":

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Here's what Reid has in the Senate, on a good day:

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Notice the difference?

Here's what he'll have in January:

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Any proposal, whatsoever, that does not add up to this:

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

will not pass the vote that ends debate in the Senate. That's why so much stuff that we want has passed in the House and died in the Senate.

This is not a question of lacking "fight" or "spine" on Reid's or Obama's part. This is a simple recognition of the fact that this:

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

is smaller than this:

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Failing to recognize that fact and come up with legislation that adds up to this:

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

means nothing ever leaves debate, and we wind up with this:

1. Make them vote down things till everyone knows what they are doing.

Until all the people know that some stopped tax cuts, and unemployment, and other rights, and money for seniors, until the rich got billions.

There is no reason to move forward on other bill.

If an information system stops that, then the information system has to be changed.

You can't fix a problem in secret, people have to see what is going on, it wont help people to get checks when the system is still against them. And I don't believe they will starve or not get checks, that would not make sense.

It seems most of the stuff is PR. Not correcting problems, and that is dishonest.

3. They did. EVEN ON DU people don't notice or remember
Edited on Sun Dec-12-10 07:16 PM by Recursion
On Saturday, December 4th, Reid held a special Senate session in which the GOP voted against extending the middle-class tax cuts, and extending unemployment benefits. The GOP voted against them (Senate Roll Call votes 538 and 539). It made all the Sunday papers and talk shows.

Even on DU, a liberal political forum, people didn't notice and don't remember, and freak out at Reid for not doing that, even though he did. There is no massive silent progressive majority out there that is going to catch a news segment about this, and realize with outrage that Republicans opposed de-linking the middle class and upper class tax cuts. The people who care already know (though even on this site, they don't seem to know that what they're asking for already happened).

5. Interesting concept.
What sticks in peoples minds, was there a constant uproar and comments of the total audacity of holding up, rights issues, food for people, and middle class tax breaks, for billions for a few people?

Were the media showing moral outrage and the absurdity of it? or were tv shows talking about it being.

Their town.

Bernie did really well, was that wall to wall coverage on TV?

See the problem, and why it needs to change, and how capitulation will not change it.
