Jimmy Carter's Inaugural.
A couple of years ago I was sorting through a bunch of old stuff because I was getting ready to move. To my joy and astonishment, I came across an envelope I thought I'd long since thrown away.

Back in the mid-1970's I worked for an airline at National Airport, in Washington, DC. A fair number of our passengers were regulars, who commuted between DC and somewhere else on our system every week. There was one man whose name I could not recall, nor do I remember if he lived in DC and went home somewhere else, or lived elsewhere and came to DC to work. This was, after all, a good thirty-five years ago. I do recall that he was friendly and easy to deal with. Around the time of the election of Jimmy Carter I recall having a conversation with this passenger, saying that I just wish I could attend one of the Inaugural Events. He said, "Oh, I have an invitation to some stuff that I won't be using, and I'll pass it on to you." I was thrilled just to be given that stuff, and I didn't attend anything.

The invitation got tucked away and more or less forgotten until I found it recently. I turned it over, curious as to who exactly my passenger had been that he'd gotten the invitation.
